Akai news:

" truth of the matter is, akai japan had a big fire a week or so ago in one of their buildings and warehouse. they lost over 300 DPS24 (i don't know yet if any of the blk 1k's were lost) and a couple of servers. and i'm guessing one of them was their web server. i don't know. i'm trying to get more information. "

Then you would just download the manual of the 2500 which already has the much sought after/talked about OS 2.0 (in OS 1.00b..beta  ).

just quoting what i read,
as i said, the post was 21st december and it says 1 week ago so IF they were correct it would mean the fire was around 15th dec.
just cos they had a fire doesn't mean they wouldn't be in the same building.
and why were they on holiday 1 week after new year?

when i originally posted this pic, i was asked by akai to take it down. i know the blk 1k is shipping with it but when i asked (last week) if i can post the actual manual, i was told not to do it yet.

One thing is obvious: they were on a rush with this site. I think they've made it in a couple of hours: the overall design is far from being great, the code is ugly (I know it hasn't been handcoded but still, doing so bad, even with frontpage would be a challenge and they've used golive), they haven't even removed the "welcome to golive" title on the frames.
So they're prolly concerned with other things (like restructuration...).
I don't pitty akai, but I can understand they want the os release to be something special.
Also (Antonym) if they don't have anything spectacular for namm, they'd prolly be careful not to give the time to press not to review os2 before NAMM. I mean a review is free, all the press will be there, and everybody who's concerned with music is now waiting for this event. I wouldn't wanna go by this kind of free promotion (no matter if a simple os update is not that exciting).
Concerning people who don't wanna give away os 1.999..., it already has been discussed many times. They can't. If they did hey could go through legal issues (break of a non disclosure agreement, or simply be responsible for profits losses) and I wouldn't advise them to release it on that simple ground. Then there's also a moral issue, you can't freak people who trust you.
I think it's a matter of days/weeks now, it's cool the wait is almost over.
I only hope those who supervised the new website are not the ones who supervised the new os... That would suk.
