Provided you're happy with the physical differences between the two, I'd stick with the 1K. It will be like having a new instrument when you get your hands on the new OS.

sparq wrote:first and foremost i would like to say that i *suprised look on my face* have to agree with thepillage on one thing. he stated or should i say corrected someone when they said "akai doesn't need you, you need akai." in this respect alone, i agree with thepillage and no where else. although one would think we need akai, akai (and any other manufacturer for that matter) needs the consumer to stay in business.

ok now back to this debate. i bet if i took that same hard drive in question and put it in my computer it would work. there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. the drive works as seagate wants them to work. it's just not totally compatiple with akai's new OS. akai does not need to go back to seagate for anything as i mentioned, the drive is not defective (seagates' liability)

what akai should do is tell the consumers who wish to upgrade to 1.60, to hold off on upgrading until OS 1.61 is released because there is a compatibility issue with the hard drive and os v1.60. AND THEN give the consumer an option: if you really want to upgrade to 1.60 now, then you have to and purchase a new hard drive (at your expense) OR you can just wait until 1.61 is released.

that way, akai is informing the consumer of an issue regarding OS 1.60 at the same time reassuring the consumer that the issue will be corrected. that takes the liability off of akai AND seagate. and put the choice of what to do directly on the consumer.

Well said....

Is there someone @ AKAI support that supervises outgoing correspondence to thier customers? If there is, he/she is the problem. When you publish information, you need to word it in a way that satifies your customers. You have to give the TONE(music ref.) that you care about the customers concerns even if you don't initially have a solution. Or Sparq are they just arrogant over there?

sparq wrote: the problem lies in the code of the OS that akai wrote and released as version 1.60 that is the problem. akai can correct that problem with a revision of that code. introducing.... version 1.61.
That's the confusing part, 1.61 has already been released (October last year). But their statement only mentions 1.60.
If Akai will address the problem with the next update why the hell didn't they just put that in the statement?
Some DSP owners will buy a new HD based on that statement, not realizing it might be fixed with an update.

DPS

If there is someone out there that is contemplating buying a DPS they would be very hesitant right now based on the info out there.

hesitant.... in a way but if you do still buy it, you know what you're getting then you will have no right to complain after the fact.

the same way we all bought MPC 1000's.
If you don't seek out the information, it is your fault for buying the wrong product.

yeah, you gotta do your research first, it important.

i learned this time around, wait a few months after release, to see how the product is doing, and if there are an ydefects with the current build

i mean if people keep complaining, akai will release a better build of 1000.

mind you this is proably unlikly, so let me rephrase that...

most companies hat care about thier consumers, and not just the majority, will have engineers find their flaws and correct them.

had i know about the pads earllier, i would have gotten a triton hands down, cause it was a toss up, the mpc won because i like the idea of pads and portability. but i'd rather havea solid product at home, than a defective one on the go... but thats just me, i mean...

Humm i don't see what the problem is. Cant akai just release a new firmware that works with that harddrive? Shouldn't be too hard... like a driver or something? :D

exactly.

remember when xbox 360 came out? no one would buy it cos they wanted to see if others would take the plunge and say whether it sucked or not. same here.

i'd say everyone stops assuming that it's as easy as that. Don't you think akai would've fixed the problem if it was possible?

until you become a programmer yourself you should just stfu. it isn't as easy as that. And no, i'm not a programmer, but I have respect for the programmers out there.
AKAI's hardware isn't as universal as windows or anything, adaptability = 0. it either works or it doesn't, no little bootleg OS's to help you out.

ok

You guys are only looking at things from one point of view and not being openminded. And it comes across that way. Differing points of view on both sides usually makes for a healthy conversation, but if you always take one point of view you will leave yourself open to be picked apart and not taken seriously. There must be some that are in the situation(DPS) or why would AKAI post this info. There is a couple of different ways to handle the situation. Every time somebody says something re: AKAI some people take just one side or another without thinking in a complete way. I love AKAI like everyone else but I'm not agreeing with everything. That seems a little phony to me. No disrespect intended. In the business world you guys are great to have as consumers because a company would never be liable for anything according to your reasoning no matter what on any topic. You can't understand that?
