ok now back to this debate. i bet if i took that same hard drive in question and put it in my computer it would work. there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. the drive works as seagate wants them to work. it's just not totally compatiple with akai's new OS. akai does not need to go back to seagate for anything as i mentioned, the drive is not defective (seagates' liability)
what akai should do is tell the consumers who wish to upgrade to 1.60, to hold off on upgrading until OS 1.61 is released because there is a compatibility issue with the hard drive and os v1.60. AND THEN give the consumer an option: if you really want to upgrade to 1.60 now, then you have to and purchase a new hard drive (at your expense) OR you can just wait until 1.61 is released.
that way, akai is informing the consumer of an issue regarding OS 1.60 at the same time reassuring the consumer that the issue will be corrected. that takes the liability off of akai AND seagate. and put the choice of what to do directly on the consumer.
Well said....
Is there someone @ AKAI support that supervises outgoing correspondence to thier customers? If there is, he/she is the problem. When you publish information, you need to word it in a way that satifies your customers. You have to give the TONE(music ref.) that you care about the customers concerns even if you don't initially have a solution. Or Sparq are they just arrogant over there?
