1000 or fantom x-6

can any of you cats explain why my fantom wont connect to my comp via usb.i used the roland editor and nothing happened

The mpc can have a 100 GIG HARDDRIVE.
Fantom can only have 1 gig memorycard.

In terms of sampling a bass note and playing it on different keys (at different notes yes) you can also multisample, which is better, then using one note, but it can be done either way.. time stretch and chopping is easy..

In terms of the fantom being used solely for 50 cent type music, nope.. There is a sampler on there (with dope converters, and sample edit abilities)... you can have 512 mbs of ram, and 1gb + memory cards.. theres srxs... a dope sampler, its easy sending stuff from the comp to the keys, and vice versa.. skip back sampling... the effects are dope, resampling,

you can make whatever you want on it.. I am sample based, and have no problem with not having hundred gigs.. and who cares about presets... its all about creating your own patches anyways... honestly its a freakin beast.

the pads do there job, but yeah thats the only weak point I can see, but they work. other then that, its all opinion really.. the 1000 and the x are not in the same class, each do their own thing and could be very benefitial if used together...

theres a learning curve, but hey everything has one.. I've had an x6 since april, its dope.

how much more will it cost? any way, really try em both out in the store before you buy. I made the mistake tons of times before buying crap without testing it first.

About the Fantom, i have heard a few people saying that the drums are weak/weaker than the motif ES.

If so, can this be worked around with effects/EQ to beef them up? I haven't really got a clue about all of this as i've only recently been getting into making beats and have just been using the Reason presets with a slight tweak here and there

I would probably end up sampling drums anyway but it would be good to lay down track ideas with the presets.

One more thing, can these workstations be used to create patches /sounds from scratch like a conventional synthesizer with waveforms and all that?

The Fantom is a sampler..so you can put any drum sample in it that you want.

As far as factory sounds/patches...you can create your own custom drum sounds/kits using the waveforms and patches.

Yeah i got a few vids of the X7 saved on my comp but i dont have a clue on how to post them. There all on the Roland web site tho, its just a guy using it and showing you around the features and stuff. Im going to America for the first time in a month, im thinking of buying one over there cus there $2600 here but i dont know if ill manage to get it on a plane and im just starting out and gots an MPC 1000 so i dont want to over do it. I just thought it would be the best op ill get to get one.

Yeah but I have my fantom x hooked up through my usb to my cpu and have 500 gigs at my disposal.

I would say the fantom is a great choice the sampler is great and it has so many great wavesamples onboard to tweak and change. My beats sound nothing like G-unit beats I assure you. PLus the 8 audio tracks is a nice thing to have. The sequencer is total cake and the effects are nice as well. After owning a 2000xl, and an asr-10, and a triton and using my buddies motif I still love working with the fantom more than anything.
I picked mine up new for $1549 to give you an idea how low you can go.

Gonna look at hooking one of these Fantom's up if i can get to try one out first.

Hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on a rack/trigger finger combo too as i can sequence with cubase if i like, but i'd rather have it all in the one unit tbh.

my question is and i hope i am posting it where it belongs is, i hear the arguements about purchasing the mp1000 or a fantom, but is the timing on the fantom as tight as the mp, i have a triton and i am also in this situation, i hate the sequencer on the triton, its not as tight like the mpc and i was considering purchasing a 1000 or 2500 or a fantom, the fantom just because i like workstations, but the mpc's timing is great, i had a mpc2000xl, but the screen is wrecked and some off my pads aren't working anymore, so i laid it down to rest.......RIP

'metafor"-I've messed with x-6 before, and its a pretty cool piece. but me personally like the mpc workflow. But as far workstaions goes your gettin sounds, sampling, and sequencing. If it fits you go for it. I personally wouldn't I'm more sampled based, and don't use to many keyboard sounds. I do own a Emu mk-6, but mainly sample into the ASR 10, and then Sequence with mpc...... Plus you can expand the sound library on it i think. But theres on thing I don't like on the fantom are the pads. The pads on those things suck, but thats really my only gripe about it.

Hows that mk-6 treatin you? I want one so bad.
