Do replacement pads go bad too?

I know many of you have replaced some pads on the 1000 and i wanted to get feedback about how your replacements are holding up. Are they standing the test of time or will you eventually have to replace them too?

i hope not. i have a slight suspicion that akai just may have changed up their pads for the replacement ones and for the new blacks....that the first batch of mpc1000s just plain had bad pads, and that we're all still dealing with this.

needless to say, i'm buying 100 dollars worth of replacement pads REALLY soon. i decided against going into guitar center and swapping them out, not on moral principle but more on the fact that i want to try out the replacement pads.

On a related note: My repair job is holding up pretty well. (do a search).
The real test is happening now. Since 2.0 came out I've been using the M1K more often. I'll report in later to let y'all know how it holds up.

i think i'm not gonna replace my REALLY bad pad yet - i'm gonna fix it again using thermal grease and tin foil until i go on tour again. i want my replacement pads to be top notch when i go.

I feel for you guys who do live shows and have to deal with the stress of not knowing if your pads are going to respond. I bought a trigger finger a short while ago and it has served me well. My reasoning was i would rather pay the 149.00 once and have responsive pads instead of constantly replacing the pads which in the end could cost much more. But, i dont do live shows with mine so my situation is different. Just wanted to know if my reasoning was correct so i started this thread.

Also does anyone know if its the actual pads that are bad or is there some other internal problems that cause the pads not to respond the way they should?

Hey fellas about how long does it take for your pads to go bad on the 1k. I'm lookin into gettin one and I was wondering how long the pads last.

And are the pads covered under Akai's waranty? I just want to get the opinion of an acutal user and not a salesperson trying to get my cash.

it took about a year to go bad on one of my 1ks, but its was froma lotta negletic. On my other 1k the pads havnen't gone bad yet. Umm getting them fixed it no big deal, but its sad that akai let bad pads in there in the 1st place, but I do imagine that they are using better pads now. But if they don't its no big deal, people have already taken matters into there own hands and hvae came up with solutions to getting them to work.

it's still unknown whether akai has improved the design of their defective pads or not. and if the improvement has been made, it's still unkown whether the replacement pads that are currently in stock at akai, vst, and other service centers are of the same faulty design (leftover stock) or have been recalled for newer stock of improved design. if you're covered under warranty, there's nothing to risk. otherwise $16 per pad for the same defective design is something i'd rather avoid.
