"DIRECTORY error!!!" and "SYSTEM ERROR!!" messages

Saw that at least one other poster has been getting the DIRECTORY error!!! message. Just started happening tonight. Every time I try to save a Sample, Sequence or Program to the CF card it comes up. Saving All Programs gets a SYSTEM ERROR!! message.

Turning the 1000 off and on didn't do any good. Eventually I had to reformat the CF card, then everything seemed to save just fine. Wouldn't do you much good if you were unable to access a computer with a USB connection or had just spent a significant length of time working on something.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem? I'm pretty sure I didn't encounter it before updating the firmware to 1.02...

What OS do you have?

I'm sure all the other MPC's had bugs. Hence the need for updates for all of them. I also think we are going to hear about a lot of bugs and problems because I thin there will just be more 1000's out there than anyother machine not because it's not any good. Also a lot of the people who bought 1000 this is their first machine, and have never come across these problems before. Plus Ya'll haters just mad because you feel stupid buying an MPC and having to spend AT LEAST another $350-1000 or more to get all the pieces of the damn thing to make it more workable, and then the 1000 comes out, it's cheaper and doesn't need upgrading. And face it Akai may have downsized some things...huh...but really folks did anyone use those capabilities?! Look if DJ shadow did his whole first album on an MPC 60 which is severely limited compared to the 1000 then nobody should regret buying this machine. Peace! 1000 GEEE!

I know the 1000 is a good machine, I love it myself, but come the F...CK on! I've already lost Two projects Files and a bunch of samples due to this DIRECTORY ERROR BullSh.T.
This is more than a mere BUG. To me a BUG is something that causes malfunctioning, not something that makes you loose all your Fuk.ng work

How do you reset the MPC so it goes back to the first OS?


PS: I also think the cause for the problem is the new OS 1.02

i've had no problems at all with OS1.02

Mine worked fine on OS 1.00 and 1.01 have not yet tried 1.02. I can't try it until this weekend. I'm in the process of moving and my MPC is packed up. Anyways, It is possible that ya'll got a defective machine or defective card. Having defective electronics is a Pi$$ off, but it happens.

Did you format the CF in the 1000 before you started saving? And when you save and load is it set to memory card, and root directory?

Yes, the second time I got the DIRECTORY ERROR message was after I formatted the CF card.

I'm never upgrading. I'v e seen too many problems now.

I feel bad for all of you who are getting this DIRECTORY ERROR message. It must be really frustrating. I had few problems with my 1000 too, but in my opinion this is normal. I think that all of you who bought this machine, knew that it was something new, therefore you should have expected few imperfections. We have to give AKAI some time, and I'm pretty sure they will correct the bugs.

Look at MPC2000, it has been around for so many years, and the updates are still comming out.

You're right, and I'm actually surprised (having seen the problems experienced by 4000 users) that as few people have been experincing as few problems on a Akai machine that's only about a month old.

Having said that, I'll probably go home to discover that it has blown up my apartment.

I just installed it without any problems (same method as an upgrade)...no error messages so far.
