I am a newbie so maybe this is a stupid question but any help would be appreciated. My compact flash drive went crazy. I was going to order a new one but decided to just get the 40gig hd since the flash reader was on backorder through vst. Can I install the new OS through the hard drive or can it only be done through the flash drive? Do I still need to replace the flash drive?(all of my samples/programs are on my computer) What is the best thing for me to do??? Also, do I need to upgrade my memory or is it not necessary??

I don't think the hard disk is recognized unless you have OS 2.10. So if you're upgrading from OS 1.07 to 2.10 I don't think you'll be able to use the HD to do this.

FACT: you can install a hard drive prior to upgrading the OS.

FACT: your mpc will only see 2gb regardless of actual capacity if the above is done.

FACT: if hard drive is installed prior to OS upgrade you will need to reformat the drive after upgrade to see full capacity of drive.

Thanks for the definitive word on the matter, Sparq. I was guessing a little ;-) I had just recently read the release notes for the 2.x OS

7. Added HDD support

Which kinda suggests HD support wasn't there before ;-)
