i made some hot beats with 2mb, loops too. You just gotta sample right. If you have to sample the whole song to chop it, your not being efficient anyways.
Good point, you got to e careful with your samples and be efficient with them.
You can upgrade to a 2500 or 4000 and not be efficient with the samples and produce the same beats.
Chopping samples efficiently, sampling at higher rates all seems quite long winded to me and seems like extra work. having to then change the key back in the mpc.
From a technical point of view, All this extra processing that you will be doing playing back the samples at a different rate is going to have an effect on the ammount of work the processor is doing.
For people who say that if you want more memory they should sell their mpc and produce on the computer, i would say this
An MPC is a computer, it consists of a processor, memory, it has a circuit board, many other chips, on board soundcard, it has an input device(the pads and the buttons and dials and sliders) just like a pc has input devices, keyboard and mouse.
The mpc has a way to display information to you and give you feedback to where you are in its software and what you have done just like a computer has a monitor.
Basically an mpc is just an audio dedicated computer that has been designed in such a way that the fact that its a computer is hidden by the fact that it has a beat making friendly interface.
Back in the 80s some of you guys will remeber how computers used to be. At the time they were fine and nobody minded the fact that there was only 64 k of memory in them and that they had block graphics.
But look at how things have changed with inprovements in spec of the computers. Look at what we are able to achieve now with more powerful machines.
The same goes for the MPC, more memory would open up new creative possibilities, just like a desktop pc, the more memory you have installed the faster it runs. Operating systems are designed to make the best use of the memory available.
Its not only in terms of memory where i think the 2000xl is being neglected, theres also the speed at witch information is processed. loading samples, and chopping loops and time stretch features can be real slow. This only aids to slow down the creative flow as your sitting waiting for the machine to finish processing.
And please dont say well you should use a computer to timestretch because i already do. the mpc.
But more memory would be cool and the cost could be so small, for akai maybe the cost of a few lines of code, no hardware modification neccessary. The cost to you the cost of 2 64mb sticks of EDO ram ($!5) or akai branded ($200 lol)
thats my dollars worth.
