I dont use a 1k but i still use a MPC. I usually start wit da hi-hat, then do my drums, then snare. Then i add a bassline and build up from there.

The hi hat and bassline help me build my track up. The hi hat allows my setup of my percussion arrangement and the bassline allows me to add sounds for the melody.

This thread should've been posted in Production Techinques.

but anyway, it doesnt make a difference how you produce a track. everyone has their own methods that can change at any given moment... so do whatever works for you. 8)

absolutely. just clearing it up to dom that there's no set method for "making hits"

that being said, i usually start with recording 3 or 4 samples onto my mpc, turning them into pgms chopped note for note, and going crazy with reprogramming. i lay a hat metronome down to give myself reference, and then add in a real basic boom bap.

from there, anything could happen, largely depending on whether or not i'm in my studio w/ my mpc or someplace else, or if i feel like keeping it organic or adding synths.

I just started using an mpc and sampling in general so i usually start by chopping a sample and getting the melody. I usually then proceed to get mad and turn it off. When composing a beat in reason, i always, always, start with drums. Then i make a basic melody and layer and layer off of that. Then i go back and redo the drums. Then bassline.

If my beat is sample based, i get my loop and then clean it lay it down, low pass a second version of it, boost it up, maybe bit grunge then put down the hi-hats then the kick and snare from a record. BAM!!!!!!!!!! Instand Beat.
