do you not think that striving for something produces excellence in that field? personally i think that if everything is handed to you on a plate, you have no incentive to excel yourself. if you don't have the determination to learn a complicated piece of equipment then, i'm sorry, but you shouldn't be in the game.

true, you have a point.

but consider some kid that has potential and its his first instrument... why push the kid around and say "hey learn it yourself" or just help him and say "here's how to get going"

dont see why everyone's so judgemental.. oh wait I know why.. we're musicians

i can see where you're coming from, and i think it's great that you're willing to be so helpful, but learning things for yourself is the only true way to learn something well. if you are dedicated enough, you will want to learn. if you have potential, but zero willpower, a constant barrage of 'RTFM!!' may kick start something, or it may not, but one thing is for certain, the diligent always shine through in the end. :D

yep. man I was beating out triton sequences for years now and now I'm just started on the 1k and its sweet.. but we're both pretty stupid for disputing this.. the MPC Tutor DVD is doing everything I asked for,... but what you're saying is ppl that want to get the MPC Tutor DVD shouldnt be in the game.. isnt that what you pretty much said in other words?

Proble is if you do a guide "from a producers point of view and not akai's point of view" it´s not gonna be so much about how to update the OS or asssign samples, all that is covered in Akai´s manual or Read me´s that go along the updates. From a producer´s point of view it´ll be more about on how to build your tracks, mix, where to find samples and how to treat them.
I´m really happy noone learned me those things when I started out messing with samplers 9 years ago, I didn´t understand shit and spent a long time to learn the arcitechture oof the sampler (Akai S2000) and tried to understand how to treat samples to get it the way I wanted.
It took several years until I felt I could master the sampler as an instrument, that is have a musical idea and realize it through the sampler, I´m not a "muscial" guy but the years spent with experiments that didn´t turn out as I hoped and being forced to dissect music I listen to has certainly made me more "musical" and flexible in what sources and techniques I can apply in my tracks.

A "Production for dummies" will probably generate a lot of people that gets locked in a on way approach to production, it´s like people that learn a traditional instrument through traditional tutoring are having problems to use their instruments in new and unorthodox ways cause they have learnt "how it shall be played".

see now that made total sense. I didn't see it that way. I am a musical guy, I went to university for music, just graduated.. I play guitar, but computer sequencing is on the other spectrum of the music field and I write better music than can I program data.. thought it woulda helped ppl like me who are musicians more than engineers. but its pretty easy I got most of it down, like I said I used the triton LE for 3 years and I mastered that pretty much... now to master this thing.

not quite what i meant, though i can see why you thought that, i didn't word myself very well. watching a dvd or reading an ebook tutorial is a great help in producing music with the mpc. the trouble is all of what is in those tutorials can be discovered on your own given time. no disrespect to tutor for his fantastic products, but to me, people are always looking for a quicker way to do something, which is fine, but there are far more benefits in struggling through on your own. so, in conclusion, i didn't say tutor's ebooks and dvds are crap, i didn't say if you buy them you're crap and shouldn't be a producer, i merely said (or tried to say) that it would be beneficial to your production career and/or life to persevere with learning to use the mpc or any piece of equipment yourself and not to try and take short cuts. no one is saying it won't be difficult, but look at it this way: cavemen would be still in their caves eating bats if they themselves didn't have a go at going outside and catching a buffalo/walk to the local McDonald's!

Disclaimer: the caveman metaphor was not historically correct.
