I'm going with a draw. Ya'll both coulda came with more heat and more hard agressive beats for a battle from what I have observed, but I wasn't into these tracks in comparison to some of ya'll other tracks. Definitly on a level I'm trying to step my sh*t up too but I'm not too fond of these tracks ya'll put up. But what do I know.1

Did ya'll both make a conscience effort to do the scracthing in ya'll tracks or was that just coincidental? Just wondering.

I had planned to put them into my track but I had no idea what he was gonna bring to the table. Just so heads know, there is a switch up towards the end of my song in case you get bored and don't intend to listen to it all the way through. That switch comes is more fired up than te beginning. you should look into grabbing a Vestax PMC 06. Excellent mixer and you can find them used for 150 -200.

@ nym... great track. a really strong ninja tunes vibe on this. i mean that - you should start sending stuff to them!! the scratching at around 50secs... sounds like a sinewave but scratched... sounds really great. thats serato scratch right?? sounds great.

@ spesh... i was sure it gonna be nyms track when i first heard his but ill have to go for a draw.. theyre both pretty strong. yours is more complete as a track. nyms is like a basis for a track and has maybe more promise in the end. yours is complete as is... i LOVE that spooky organ riff when it comes in... one thing i would say though is that for me IMO the scratching is too incessant thoughout. too non-stop and less subtle than on nyms... prolly a taste thing i guess.. i would prefer the scratching on nyms.... it sounds more 'goofy' or something.. but the sounds underneath on yours are f*ng excellent...

Thanks man. It definatley is a preference thing as far as the scratching, plus I have been learnign a few new tricks and trying to show those off a bit so I can see how that can be overkill. I can definatley see Nym getting down with Ninja Tune. Dude has ridiculous skills and I look forward to doing this again.

@ Nym, i'm sure i can hear the sound of the control vinyl being scratched there, i'm a big fan of that when i'm practicing myself!

Spesh - beat was ok, bit basic and got a bit repetitive towards the end. The mix was quite dull too. I like the initial sounds on it

Nym - Like the drums and the vocal samples. Guitar's pretty cool too. The last sample is just straight abusing spesh, lol

thanks for the comments. maaaaad simple song on my part - i think spesh worked longer and harder on his final product than i did mine. i was ranging from sample to sample - all i knew was that i enjoyed that initial kickless first bar of every 2. the chords just came later.

all in all my beat is modelled after Ray Bradbury's short story "Skeleton" which i have on tape. hence the samples. it's simple, not a lot of breakups and downs. i would classify the song as a beat, not an instrumental. this means someone should sing/rap over it.

so i'd like to ask emcees what they think about the beat from that standpoint.

spesh - this is a good beat and the breakdown works well. question - do you track your beats out or is it hot from the sampler? maybe it's the quality of the mp3 on your myspace, but something about the song sounds murky. the drums, i think. it very well could be the compression of the mp3.

Dude I straight up put 15 sequences into song mode and ran the MPC and the tables to the mixer and from the mixer to the computer mic input on the stock soundcard. I have no monitors, but I have a sick pair of Audio Technica headphones and I do all the mixing in the MPC. The scratches are all real time. Download it and play it in your car. Until I get a decent interface and some monitors I'm gonna have to keep it grimey. I think I handle the mix down decently considering.

Yeah I was suprised with your beat man. It's a dope beat but from spending hours listening to Edge City I was half expecting another 3 Penny Opera type joint. This one sounds like it's the start of a banger, IMO. I'm don't really understand where Spirez is saying my beat is repetitive, because I used 15 sequences and progressively built it up brought it back down and slammed it back in on the switch. Either way though I'm impressed with it. Win or lose though, I give you much respect.
