Dumped computers & software, bought MPC!

Yeah the MPC and Reason will be fine. Reason's not too CPU hungry so if you're only using it as a sound module it wont be too taxing.

The 2500 is a VERY powerful machine. I mean, yeah it's a lot of money, but can't think of anything else that comes close. Roland have the new MC-808, which is cool (saw one for the first time the other week and was quite impressed), but for beat-orientated music, you find it difficult to get something better for the job than an MPC. As I siad in my original post, I actually had to sell things in my studio to get it and I don't regret it at all.

I'm looking to add a Korg MicroX 25-key synth next (when it becomes available in a few weeks time), as I think that would be a cool addition (being Triton based, but with new wave ROM as well). I'm so enjoying getting back into this.

Your line of thinking is the exact line I had way back when... don't go there... get the MPC and learn it inside and out. I had the dilemna of no sound sources orignally too, but had I thought about it I wuold have realized I had been making tracks since I was 9 with practically no gear at all. Once I got some money in my pocket I started thinking I needed to buyeverything I could afford that made music. I got caught up and it's easy to do...especially with magazines as was mentioned before.

Lastly, many on these board have stated you can get an MPC2500 for arounf $1500-$1600. I got mine for $1500.

thats not bad but i think i'll get it from http://vstservice.com/ and get all the extra shit instead of getting it later and spending more...or do u think if i bought each part later i could get it for less than $2099 if i were to find a 2500 at $1600?

Yea, you can get the extras for cheaper. I don't know about the cd drive. Anyone can affirm whether you can buy non- akai cd-drive?

I started with an mpc2000 went to a Machinedrum and gone back to the 2500. The Machinedrum is a great drum machine but a bad sequencer. I would rather have both but can't afford it. I can do much better with the 2500 and the samples I made from the Machinedrum. I have an Indigo 2 also but will never buy another product unless it's an improved mpc. Everything else I get I'll build or it'll be a kit to be built.

I'm no expert on the pricing, but from what I read here, many have said they got maxed out systems for under the $2000 mark. I got mine for $1500 and the only thing I do not have is the CD drive (not really missing it). In total I paid 1580 because I bought my HD seperately from NewEgg

where from? i've been searching all over, but can find anything under 2 grand......anyone know of a site where they sell 2500's for $1500-$1600?....keep in mind that i want to buy new and not off of ebay

I have experience with software more than hardware. Ive found that after a couple yearsof trying t get the sound I want, it just doesnt do it. I have experience with ableton live, (which is excellent). But i have also been messing with my friends mpc2000xl. I find the mpc is does very quickly what i would try for a while to do in ableton. Also more than anything teh drums on ableton just dont sound right. Im thinking of getting an mpc2500 but money is an issue. Is the mpc 1000 much different considering i will be using it mostly for drum programming!

I haven't posted on these boards before but i have been lurking around! Have to say that the first post in this thread was more or less the reason why i went for the MPC. For too long i had been worried about upgrading ram, sound cards, VST plugins, latency and hardware compatability just to realise the my PC was way out of date and underpowered to be of any use to me. I originally had a Korg Eletribe groove box before the PC, which i was very used to and found that the PC was just to distant when it came to the feel of the music. Now the MPC is bringing the fun back into beat-making with so much more freedom to express.
