bees80 wrote:actually we could expect the same nasty trick akai did with the mpc 1000..

1.make a buggy machine
2. slow slow slow OS updates
3. drop the price from the machine with -200 $
4. update the OS with lots of new features, updates and fixes
5. pop the machine in a new box with some little extra's
6. sell it again at it's original price

i know this is true.. becuz before os 2.0 on the mpc1000 everyone was selling their mpc like crazy.. even i did!.. and then they come up with this new OS.. and now you see nobody selling their mpc1k

now ain't that some nasty tactics?

Damn :? sho is.

Check the release date of the 1K then check the release date of the free, major upgrade that they released. Not long at all for completely overhauling the OS. Didn't cost users a penny and introduced functionality that users wished for but that far exceeded the machines original OS.

Hats off to them I say. Pound for pound, the 1K is one of the best MPCs ever produced and there's a strong possibility that there are more updates to come. Everyone has their opinions but I'm surprised to see a company being criticised for trying to do the right thing.

My only complaint is quality control. Until they get actual people that use MPCs, to trouble shoot new operating systems before release...they will continue to have problems. Many of us have found bugs in the first 3 OS within 24 hours. I haven't even tried loading the latest OS due to the frustration I have built up.

How do you know who they have testing?
User avatar

By Spirez Wed Jun 14, 2006 7:04 pm
Well it's obvious it's none of us!

What he's saying is that they seem to do all of the testing in-house and it's just not thorough enough. If we were given the chance to beta test the OS before official release most of the problems would be discovered within a week, probably 80% of them within 24 hours.

Instead, they give it to us unfinished. They can't be testing the OS properly at all if we can find som many faults within a day, simply by making music as we would.

It's not even as if we look for the bugs, they're just so blatantly obvious!

...and, with all the negativity around this forum, I'm not suprised... you can speculate about how a company does anything all day long, it doesn't mean you're right. Just like i could speculate how you use your MPC all day long, but it will never be anything but speculation.
I've been lingering around these forums for years - ever since I got my MPC4000, but I never joined because it was always such a pain in the arse to weed thru all the B.S. All the other forums I frequent - everyone one of them - are for help, not poking fingers and placing blame.
So, I decide to join to see if I could figure out about this 'System Test' error message - all because of one poll - a poll that I see now was just another bunch of negative B.S.
Seriously... you sit here and **** about them not addressing this error and then they come out with an update and you won't use it!!! Instead, you pick at their testers/engineers!!??!!

Whatever - I'm gonna go slap some pads.

Yeah whatever. I installed the update yesterday...

Maybe i expect too much after purchasing Rane Serato Scratch Live and witnessing the best customer support service i've ever come across?

Sorry if you think i'm asking too much, but i dont really think a stable OS is too much of a request...

now do you really think that it wasn't akai's intension to actually come out with this ''pro'' OS 2.0 in the first place?

because to be honest; before OS 2.0 the 1k wasn't worth it's money, why you think ppl sold it like crazy ? they weren't satisfied!

and about a company getting criticised for doing the right thing is quite opinion-bonded. my opinion is that it's very bad to distribute a product that isn't good functioning. and in addition to this, it's even worse that they came up with these lame selling tactics...

First...you do have a choice to read or not read any of these threads...as you have the right to post or not post.

There are plenty of helpful threads if you do a quick search. Most questions have already been answered several times over. If there is so much negativity and BS...it is because of the BS product that Akai releases. These are real issues and not something just made up. Myself..along with several other forum members, have posted threads about OS bugs and info on how to work around some of these issues. We have always reported these problems in detail to Akai. Asking for a stable OS for something that we paid $2000 is not asking too much.

This is not speculation. Akai has released 3 operating systems for the 2500 that I have found bugs in within 24 hours. Do I have to repeat myself. I said within 24 hours. Whatever they are doing at Akai, I can say for certain that they are not using people that actually use MPCs to create music to test the OS before release. How in the hell can Akai miss something as note-repeat? How in the hell can you miss something like the MIDI outputs not working? The answer is quite obvious.

I haven't installed the latest OS because I got so frustrated that I am not even using the 2500. I need a break from beta testing the software for them. I will let the rest of the forum members do it and just read the threads for the fixes.

Yes, I will continue to bash who ever the hell Akai is getting to test the software. They are obviously not MPC users.

medullabuzz, continue to slap on your pads. Just don't do that with an MPC 1000. Also..if you have owned and used an MPC 2500, like the rest of us, you would be up in here sharing frustrations or suffering in silence......

Irrespective or whether they planned it or not, the current features were not part of the original spec and people buying the unit pre OS 2.0 did so based on what it did then. eBay action only really gathered pace once the MPC2.5K was unveiled and slowed down immediately upon release of OS 2.0 for the 1K. For people that knew what they were buying, the 1K was and is a great piece of kit.

Lame selling tactic? I've obviously missed those adverts. I knew what I was buying and getting a full upgrade for free - including ability to add HDD - was a major bonus.

If continuing to support products long after sales have peaked - see recent OS upgrade and card functionality for 2KXl as proof of this - is not typical of a company trying to do the right thing by their users then what is?

The MPC2.5K is an absolute beast of a machine and Akai will do their best to ensure it fulfills its potential and becomes a future classic.

Well offcourse everyone knew what they were buying with the mpc1k(os 1.0) but nobody would have expected that the machine was so buggy..

maybe it's also possible that they felt guilty for messing up with a machine that really was poor beta tested..

i very agree that a company should do the right thing, but you gotta look at the big picture and at the facts. and with the facts about the mpc1k with the buggy release untill os 2.0.. it seems very strange to me and i start to think it's a lame selling technique..

maybe i'm also mad because i sold my mpc1000 before OS 2.0.. because then i would have kept the little fuqqer..
