[HD and long file names] How do you deal with that?

Sup everyone i was just about to load some samples one my MPC when I realized it could not handle filenames longer than 16chars

Now that's a little bit uckfed up aint it?
My filenaming was perfect to me...

And how am I supposed to rename more than 10000 files?

well it could be easyly done with a single linux command, but i guess your on a windows system.

then since there is no usefull command for that, except making an hard dos script. you may take a look at :

it can does the job for you. then you will have to think hard to a new filenaming convention and strategy, as you are limited to 16 chars.

If YOU use more than 10,000 files in one song, I applaud you.

I had this problem as well , was realy annoying but i down loaded a file renmaing and will help you a lot to cut the file names down shorter , try download .com so me of them are free ware .

You can use the rename function of Total Commander. As well as replacing the Windows Exploder, I use it all the time to rename files foir the mpc.

because the screen of the mpc have a limited display, so you cant put 255 chars on the same line. you have to trunc the name.

they could make some display artefact like those on mp3 players, when rendering a long filename, the file name is showing with some motion ( display first part then second part etc etc of the filename).

just some hypothesis

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm givin you str8 answers and not beating around the bush. I answered every one of your questions and even told you of a renaming program. There is NOTHING you can do about the 16 character filename limitation, you will jsut have to deal with it, not being rude but that's how it is. Renaming works fine if you get into it and see what's it's about. You trying to figure out WHY the mpc can't do more is not going to help you all that will do is frustrate you more cause that's all the format can do, it's a limitation of the format, period.

Sometimes you can't have what you want (forums answers, file name lengths, etc.) and you gotta find a way around it and/or know when to bow out gracefully. They told you the same shyt I told you but you thank them, getting around me like I didn't even answer.

THAT is rude ya know.
