if i'm missing the point, it's because you change it mid way though. personally, i know the os will sell at least 10 copies due at very least to their beta testers. whether it will "never sell" because of bootlegging is another matter altogether.
Still look how positvely people respoded to the BETA version just because they felt it wasn't Akai.
how about because it worked better than the akai version? that's reason for me to respond positively...not because i "felt it wasn't akai." i look at things logically - if i get a function, it doesn't matter from who.
you weren't around well earlier - this site has been creating mpc1000 plugins and patches loooong before ever os 2.1 and releasing them for free. they were strange little devices, not really OS at all but more like...live tune warping and other strange plugins that replaced the current os (1.07). they were like presentation os's with minimal functions.
this site didn't just appear out of nowhere, it's been around for ages. for that to fit with the akai conspiracy theory suggests that the site was a sleeper for 2+ years...another reason why i think that's nuts.
They were testing it and reporting back intelligently to JJ which is exactly what Akai needed people to do.
if akai NEEDED people to report back, don't you think they would have done it from their own website? in well translated english?
for instance. before os 2.1 was released, a user named Sparq was among the early beta testers. sparq has a business relationship with akai. he knows before the rest of us what akai is plannign for the mpc1000.
i quote sparq from an mpc1000 forum post regarding a case where an incompetent user was unable to install a new os:
"and this is why i would not use that JJ os crack. Fam, OS 3.05 is not an official akai OS."
as for the cease and desist, that's something i am curious about. nothing would necessarily stop akai from obtaining the JJ os and simply putting it on their support/documentation site for a free download, would it? all they have to do is open the code and remove any thumbprints - and they wouldn't even have to do that, necessarily.
so basically, it could be said that jj is bettering their machine for free. bad for jj, good for akai. if this is the case, there's no reason for akai to send a cease and desist.
