i'm willing to bet that if akai was selling this thing it'd be a lot more money

this has unprofessional businessman written all over it

i mean...have you gone to the website? have you looked at the rest of biglobe? it'd be an elaborate hoax by akai the business to be doing this.

i would have a lot less of a hard time believing that the JJ is in fact close to the guy who coded the original mpc1000/2500 os and is now working freelance.

As an MPC fanatic, I report issues that I or other forum members find to Akai. They are aware and I have made my feelings known that I also would prefer to have it work like previous MPCs. Why mess with perfection? But really..until (if) they change it, we have no choice but to hit the stop button on the MPC. This OS was just released making it the 4th for the year. I doubt an updated OS will drop anytime soon.

Well, we all love to speculate.......

Oh...you also have the option of not using the 2500 if you don't like pushing the stop button

If you look at the addendum you will see it doesn't work.
What I mean is it's still supposed to work the old way according to the documentation.
The waiting for sync , it not how it's supposed to work and should still be reported to Akai and a problem.

Yes, I am aware of that. It worked exactly according to documentation in OS 1.2. With OS 1.22 it was changed. Of course I like the way it works in OS 1.2 because that is they way MPCs have always worked. Akai already knows about this. For now, you will have to use it they way it is (already detailed above and in another thread). You just have to take the extra step (which is so..so hard to do) and press stop on the MPCs transport after your external sequencer starts it. Hate it or love....

I really don't care about Akai or JJ charging for operating systems that add new functions vs just bug fixes. But how will they profit once the OS is made available? The operating system is so small, you can easily mass email it. If people in these forums were crying about spending an extra $30-$50 for the Akai memory and went with 3rd party memory...what makes anyone think that they would spend $30 on an OS when there possibly is way to get it for free???
jahrome this is not my quote,it's the Maker's quote please edit thanks.  page 5 I think. 8)

You miss the point.
As Jahrome was saying it will never sell.
Still look how positvely people respoded to the BETA version just because they felt it wasn't Akai.
They were testing it and reporting back intelligently to JJ which is exactly what Akai needed people to do.
Akai is and has been aware of the 3rd party O.S., neither the 1k or 2500 are old products so it would have been a 7 day turn around tops for a cease and desist on this hack.
Nothing about this is a coincidence.
People should realize the majority of the dumb questions you see posted here on the 1k or 2500 have been sent to Akai reps as well.
In many cses several times over by individuals who don't even post here.
It's hard to weed through to see what the real problems.

I for one am very grateful about the job Akai has done debugging the 2500.
Since the MTC worked in 1.20 getting it back in the next update shouldn't be a problem.
The SIMULT thing comes from them not clearly seeing the advantage of that method.
It's easy to see how with resampling, the 4-layers and teh adundance of PGMs they overlooked it.
Just drop them an line to let them know you miss it.
The New Folder bug I haven't seen so I can't fully perceive the problem.
I have a Kingston 512CF with the 40G Toshiba and my 2500 stays turned on more than turned off.
I have yet to regret any aspect of my 2500 purchase and that's with deep MPC history on the previous models and having to re-align my pads.

Do any of you use Battery 2? Its has SIMULT :D You can trigger as many sounds as you want from one pad. You can create/edit your drums there and sample them into your MPC.

if i'm missing the point, it's because you change it mid way though. personally, i know the os will sell at least 10 copies due at very least to their beta testers. whether it will "never sell" because of bootlegging is another matter altogether.

Still look how positvely people respoded to the BETA version just because they felt it wasn't Akai.

how about because it worked better than the akai version? that's reason for me to respond positively...not because i "felt it wasn't akai." i look at things logically - if i get a function, it doesn't matter from who.

you weren't around well earlier - this site has been creating mpc1000 plugins and patches loooong before ever os 2.1 and releasing them for free. they were strange little devices, not really OS at all but more like...live tune warping and other strange plugins that replaced the current os (1.07). they were like presentation os's with minimal functions.

this site didn't just appear out of nowhere, it's been around for ages. for that to fit with the akai conspiracy theory suggests that the site was a sleeper for 2+ years...another reason why i think that's nuts.

They were testing it and reporting back intelligently to JJ which is exactly what Akai needed people to do.

if akai NEEDED people to report back, don't you think they would have done it from their own website? in well translated english?

for instance. before os 2.1 was released, a user named Sparq was among the early beta testers. sparq has a business relationship with akai. he knows before the rest of us what akai is plannign for the mpc1000.

i quote sparq from an mpc1000 forum post regarding a case where an incompetent user was unable to install a new os:

"and this is why i would not use that JJ os crack. Fam, OS 3.05 is not an official akai OS."

as for the cease and desist, that's something i am curious about. nothing would necessarily stop akai from obtaining the JJ os and simply putting it on their support/documentation site for a free download, would it? all they have to do is open the code and remove any thumbprints - and they wouldn't even have to do that, necessarily.

so basically, it could be said that jj is bettering their machine for free. bad for jj, good for akai. if this is the case, there's no reason for akai to send a cease and desist.

Why would the beta testers have to pay for the finished OS? As far as 'bootlegging' are you trying to imply that you don't have any bootlegged samples in your collection ???

I have been around here since long before the 1k dropped.
The O.S. is not open code, Akai would not stand by and let a 3rd party person hack it.
It worked because Akai wanted it to work not because some undercover programmer is hacking it.
If Akai let you directly submit info they would be flooded, by going this route you have a differnt type of user.
Someone more prone to understanding what they are trying to do and what is or isn't happening.
Akai's site is a misdirection all in itself.
If I use their site instead of one of the direct email address (which have a different domain) I will often get a reply back from someone at Numark telling me to contact Akai, even though it was originally sent to Akai.
Things aren't always what they seem.
Numark/Akai are playing for much bigger stakes than what people are seeing.
Just have some honest conversation with an Akai employee off-line, you might be surprised.
At any rate in time things will all be clear.

because we were never promised free copies of the os. and no, i have never bought ANY audio samples/software, i jack everything, but i will still purchase the JJ os as my suggestions have been directly implemented into the os and as such i feel moved to make a donation.

and that is why i said bootlegging is another matter altogether.

maker, so why the guise of selling 30 dollar os's that are easily bootlegged? to create a buzz when in fact a direct akai release would be more widely spread/easily accessible to the masses? all while operating under a poorly translated japanese site? in hopes of making maybe 300 dollars?

that sounds like a brilliant business venture to me.

Why??
Because people are asking JJ for features, where as they were demanding them from Akai.

Same reason Akai gave away the RAM and now the CD drive.
It's all about making a person feel like they are getting what they want.
The 1k and the 2500 are selling well, Akai will not jepordize that or let some third party person control it.
That's jsut not a business move.
Just look at the third party forum and notice the difference between it and the normal 1k forum.
Would Akai releasing it as BETA have casued the same effect?
No.
People would be say the same nonsense as always I am not going be a BETA tester for Akai.
Yet it's cool to be a BETA tester for JJ.

Usually, when you beta test software, the beta testers get a free copy of the finished product. I beta tested sampling software (stand alone and VST) from a major company. When the beta cycle was complete, they gave us the finalized product..manuals..dongle and all. $450 software program for free for help testing the program.

JJ could have at least offered you a free version of the final product especially since it will be on sale for only $30 and you have obviously spent alot of time beta testing the software and moderating a site dedicated to that software...plus, it will get bootlegged anyway. But I won't tell you how to spend your $30

speaking of laughables, watching Jahrome get his panties in such a bunch over the mere idea is truly a treat.
