we call it silicon sealer at our garage. it may have different names elsewhere though. you just need to check that it's got 100% silicone, that's all.

word of advice though, you may be better off using Antonym's technique of sticking the graphite square to the underside of the rubber pad. apparently it works better than just re-attaching the graphite in its original position where it may well come loose again.

s'up to you...

about the thing with the thing: cool

i believe that's what Antonym used, yes, but i'm sure anything flexible that will stick graphite to rubber will work just fine. i'm pretty sure that silicone is up to the job, just make sure that the graphite is curved over the raised centre portion of the underside of the rubber pad, otherwise (if it's flat) it'll trigger with full velocity all the time. the curve is what creates a small contact patch for light taps, and a large one for hard taps.

hope this helps.

don't worry, if you download the MPC500's O.S. when it's available, it only uses 12 pads, so you'll be ok, plus, you'll have one spare!

lol why do people not read the whole thread?!

if ya just looked at the page before this, the page with the pics are mentioned.

i havent even gotten my mpc yet an i've still gone thru the entire thread !

i do have a question tho:

since the other mpc's pads are built as a sheet, does that mean if one pad craps out, you have to replace or fix the whole sheet? so would you not be able to just dismantle it and repair a single pad with some of the methods listed here?

if thats the case then thats the deciding factor on my getting a 1000 cos i was thinking of a 2500 for just a bit more cash :P

my problem is that i'm literally a thousand miles in any direction from the nearest dealership/repairshop/decently developed country, so being able to fix the pads myself becomes a major factor.

putting aside the "better build quality" argument for a second, i do have to consider the possibility of even the 2500's pads breaking down one day.

great job on the whole thread guys, its much appreciated!

and since its been a while since anyone asked, how are your repaired pads holding up so far?

still good over here, but i soon plan on breaking em all and throwing away the graphite after i find a good buy online of the same type.

i plan on purchasing a couple sheets of flexible graphite and cutting out larger squares than the little squares akai provided. this will then be glued w/ a lot of excellent contact cement. i want to do this for ultimate reliability and to improve performance beyond the original design.

what i described just now will be the last time i ever have to tinker around in there, and indeed will be the greatest pad solution devised for the 1000.
