ya im tired of spidif heres my reason and curiousity.. when ever i sample using spidif from my alesis multimix mixer to my mpc1000 i notice in log mode in trim that the kicks look dull where it should be big sense its punchy compared to the rest but the bass is highly visible. now when i sample using analog i can see clearly..but the wav shapes are weird... heres my example.. sense i sample only in mono this could be a question on quality cables... the wavshape when i sample in analog dont always travel up and down... lets devide the wav shape top will be top channel and bottom will be bottom channel remember this is mono.. so in the top channel the wavshape starts at 0 and goes up then down passed zero to the bottom channel then goes up to the top channel agin back to 0. well in my situation it doesnt do that instead it starts at 0 goes up then down but doesnt make it to the next channel until a couple wav shapes later then i see a wavshape apear at 0 going down the bottom channel.. not nym posted a link to tweak heads on cables in one of these post but i read it and didnt fully understand but maybe this is my problem that i got me some cheap ass cables or maybe i need a break box to fix the signals.. the sound sounds great but to edit in analog is kinda iffy.. any help would be uber apreaciated

Yo man.... you are kinda overanalyzing the waveform. It's going to depend on the sound... It's ok for the waveform to go up and down before crossing zero again. Those "mini waves" are the higher frequencies of the sound.

Now if you mean that the waveform does not look "centered" from top to bottom, then you have a DC offset problem. Most sound editing software has a way to correct DC offset very easily. Dump the sound to your computer, fix the DC offset, then put it back on the MPC.

Whether you use the analog or digital inputs, your waveform should be looking pretty much identical, or at least no very noticeable differences.

ohh there definately not identical.. i can sample a loop off my computer either by digital or by analog, but the results for both of the same sound come out looking completely different... ive been using digital but see alot of punch in analog witch is cool but the wavshapes look so different.. tell me about the offset what does that do?

the mpc has coloring at its analog to digital & digital to analog stages that adds 'punch'. i imagine when you record digital you are keeping the signal entirely digital so it bypasses the coloration stage. for what its worth, i prefer to use analog when working with the mpc despite the pro's of digital. every machine that passes audio imposes its character on it... the mpc has a punchy character & i like to try to capture that when i record.

I went to best buy and bought a digital coaxial cable. Is that different from an spdif cable? I thought they were the same thing. :?

It's the same thing. You probably bought the same cable I bought, made by Acoustic Research. I have no problems with that cable at all. Anything more expensive like a Monster Cable wouldn't be worth the outrageous markup. 8)
