hi ive been a drummer for about 4 years and im new to this game, and i dont know shit about this so i need help on how would u cut parts of a sample on ur turntable , or do u do that on an mpc? and if u do sample it how would u manipulate your sample so it will be your own beat do i need a syntheizer also or can i just do it with sampling from turntables and an mpc... like with an mpc i guess u can make your own drum part for the song but how would you manipulate the melody of the song to kind of your own beat knha what i mean? sorry im a new commer and im just trying to learn and get in this game.

Read the <PC manual, check on line tutorials,

Look up 16 levels and midi sequencing.

thanks. but yeah **** it, my opinion is keyboard its better, it has it all and alot easier, i prefer a motif or trition workstation keyboard over an mpc where you gotta load up samples from a sound module. the keyboard has it all already plus more options

Dog, a keyboard is cool, but many of them are ANNOYING to use as samplers. Before you buy something, you should chill w/ some
experienced producers, maybe on who uses a keyboard, and one who uses an MPC. Get a feel for what you like, etc
The main difference, I believe, lies in the sequencers. The MPC is
famous for a reason: cus it does what you want it to do.
Many keyboard sequencers suck ass.

i asked the guy at the store about if the mpc sequencer is better than keyboards he said not really, and sampling is not bad also, and also you should start with keyboards. Just curious of what keyboards you are talking about for the sequencing or is it all workstation keyboards? so i can make a wiser descion buy my equip. thanks

1. Have patience with the reply thing :? .
2. 2kxl manual. pg 103- 108. zone feature and slice feature :D .
3. You didn't state WHAT mpc you are working with :? .

Even with it's reported bugs, 4k is a VERY capable sampler. Don't knock it.

yeah dude i think im gonna take some lessons and save up for a keyboard, its a good investment.... like triton or a motif.I just need to a little bit more hmwk. But what i think right now is that it has everything, even if the sequencing sucks i can use like fruityloops to sequence and like sound forge to filter out parts of samples if i sample and stuff. I mean its just less work than an mpc because mpc you have to sample everything and program it and stuff. I don't see why people like mpcs.

You think sampling is hard or something it really only take like 5 minutes to get everything in order. Then sequencer is the bomb. Presets like on a keyboard get old. Fruityloops is childs play. Soundforge is like $400. You make it seem like its mad hard to sample a record or load and assign some samples. You still will have to change sofware programs and you will be exporting samples left and right. The MPC is a very usefull tool in the studio. You can also buy sample kits and sounds to load into it which are very good. The mpc is one of the best sequencer on the market.
That is why I like MPCs. ONce you get this gear you will soon see that an MPC is an excellent workhorse in the studio. I know you are psyched on that keyboard cause you saw some dude make a beat on it, but you will be just as amazed on how easy and how fun it is to use an MPC.

Its pretty stupid for you to come on a MPC forum, ask for help, then disrespect our tool, which some of us are a bit edgy...

First of all you don't know anything about anything so you really arent in the position to make a qualified opinion

2nd the dudes in the store half the time don't know shit, b4 I listen to any of them I ask them to make me some music or show me some music they've done and 90% of the time they cant do it, and I found one person who is now my permanant salesman, because he def is qualified to talk me into shit, and open my mind to other possibilities only cause hes been doing this for a long time, and know what hes talking about

First of all the difference, the MPC sequencer is better no doubt about that, have you tried editing your notes after you play it on a workstation?Oops forget no... n/m, the quantize features, in depth sample editing, no comparison really (the current market, waiting on the FantomX to see how it gets down)

Considering you havent even made any songs yet, I'm sure it seems way more appealing for you to have all the sounds laid out infront of you, cause you have no idea about sample cds, vinyl, sample kits for sale, free sample kits, blah blah on and on

Its basically this you get a mpc and if your a noob you have no sounds at all and have to put in a little extra effort to get sounds, seems a little more daunting than just buying a workstation and comming with all those preloaded SAMPLES (thats right your triton are filled with samples and advanced programming to get the sounds)

Could solve that problem get a MPC with a Sound module, boom, you know have a MPC with all the triton sounds on the sound module

You obviously just want to be a lazy dude using the same preset sounds everyone else is going to be using, its cute for a while, but down the road your going to be like ok, I want to start sampling and making my own sounds and that 96mb of ram is going to come slap you right back in the face

You act as if you have a MPC you have to sample, you don't, you don't have to program a damn thing either, just get loaded up on sample cds your sound collection will far exceed the old sounds on the workstation, you don't have to only use samples either I use my MPC to control the sounds on my motif rack or my triton studio, so I have the best of all worlds

P.S. Don't think either that just cause you have sounds your going to be making hot shit with them, your going to start out garbage, and the road of composition is longer and harder than sampling, hell sampling is a great start to learn how to compose

Learn how not to knock stuff till you try it, especially if you don't know what your talking about
Sorry if I repeated some shit, I'm tired, but Im sure I got my point across

P.S.2, Before the elite sampler defender jumps in my ass, lemme clarify that Sampling and Composition are two seperate skills sets that intertwine and both require skill, combination of both will only lead to better production
