"Getting" the idea and abject misleading are two totally different things.

That's pretty much it. You are not going to get identical parts in a machine that costs half (or less than half) of it's bretheren. Nobody got shafted, nobody broke any law (US, UK, Germany, wherever) Before any product release, a company runs everything past highly paid legal people, who will scrutinise every press release, every advert, every detail on the packaging, to make sure no false claims are being made and that nothing could lead to a legal challenge. Remember, Akai is now an American company and the U.S. is probably the most litigious country in the world. A huge C.Y.A. exercise (Cover Your A55) preceeds any new products release into the wild.

Personal opinions, however, can be whatever they like. If someone feels they were mislead, the burden of proof is on them to show how. I feel cheated by many things but know that there's nothing I can do about it and I have to chalk it up to experience. It's not the same as bending over and taking it up the a55 from big corporates, it's about taking responsibility for my own decisions and making sure that I make informed choices.

I seem to be repeating myself now so I'm going to quit. If anybody feels aggrieved enough to take legal action, Good luck, you will need it.

Ultimately, the best way of letting a company know how you feel is to hit them where it hurts most, and that's their bottom line. Stop buying and they'll soon listen. But MPC sales are good apparantly, so they must be doing something right. Thing is, the vast majority of satisfied users won't voice in places like this. Why should they ? They are perfectly happy.

Good luck to you all, and happy beat making :)

welll, i think it's a crucial point that we are not arguing about whether or not akai fukd up.

they made a SERIOUS mistake with the mpc1000 pads
i never plan on purchasing another akai product as i WILL NOT KNOW if it may fall apart.

this is as bad as beringer's tube amp whose tube lit up on power on - only to turn out to have been LEDs makin the appearance of quality.

false advertising? well, they advertise em as pressure sensitive and great feeling. certainly are neither of those when they're broken.

but can anyone say taht akai made a good move on the mpc1000 pads?

didn't think so. it'd take a LOT for me to forgive them for that.

i dont think they expected the pads to be as crappy as they ended up being , hence they flowers up but didnt intentionally mislead people with the claims in their ads, but i do think they couldve taken a little more responsibility for they mistake instead of turnin around and chargin ridiculous prices for replacement pads- that was grease. on brighter note at least the screens dont fuk up like the more expensive 2000's used to

nope. that was my first one. however all it takes is having researched about sensors to know what the best sensor there is out there for this type of product - fsrs. FSRs are used in fking military projects and on some next level science sht.

and since it was my first mpc, i was buying it based on the described "great feeling pads for expressive programming."

that and the ability to hold more memory was the SOLE reason i picked that over an sp1200. at the time i had the money/opportunity to buy either or, and i finally decided on the mpc. LONG and HARD decision, but to this day i think i made the right one.

that's one of the reasons i feel like i was taken advantage of as a consumer.

With that said.....I can relate even more. If you would have had an older MPC before it, you would have immediately notice a big difference in the way the pads respond and feel.

Well..if you are going to continue and champion this cause of designing better pads...we all should applaud your efforts.

They need to make an upgrade kit and then when they sell all the old ones just put it in the new ones. This kit will include the pads that are used in 500, 2000, 3000, 4000 models. and maybe they can make some different colored ones and some glow in the dark ones and maybe some clear ones. who the H@ll knows. ill buy three. 150 bucks. if this doesnt happen soon i will be pulling apart my kawai r100 and using those plastic buttons on my 1000. alesinumarkai hurry up!!!!

Apparently yes the pads are a new revision, but I'm yet to hear/see hard facts
