it just seems like theyre turning it into a computer. which begs the question, why anyone would buy this instead of a computer/laptop?

Yeah im diggin' the MV, I have been biased a long time just because I had a MPC but AKAI better do something because Roland is coming hard. Overthrowing a king is never easy!

The new MV should be out by 02-05-07. I know Roland is planning a lot of OS updates for the new MV. If Akai doesnt step it up with the 2500, 1000, 4000 I may just have to pick one up.

88.2 K with 16/32 channels over firewire or express card would be awesome

It is :)

See what they do.

This is what the samples are at:
Audio Data Format 16-bit linear

Sampling Frequency 44.1 kHz (fixed)

and

this is what the Audio is at:
Signal Processing AD Conversion: 24 bits, 64 times oversampling / DA Conversion: 24 bits, 128 times oversampling

So the output is 24bit/44.1khz, but playing 16bit/44.1khz samples...

:)

Dave

Umm...nah. Just 'cause the converters are 24-bit does not mean that the machine operates at 24bit. It's 16-bit no matter how you slice or dice it.
Peace

The sampling engine is what operates at 16/44.1. The MV processes it's audio exactly as Dave stated.

I would do it, since a computer is not dedicated hardware and isnt designed for you to record music with. Of course you can get soundcards and controllers but i dont want to have to fix drivers, keep it in sync and read through tons of manuals just to record my music.
So therefore a solution like this, where i can do almost everything with one unit designed for it would be awesome. I would really like to do my instrument recording on my mpc too but its more designed for sample editing only.

I didn't say it didn't, but it is what it is. Roland has employed a similar setup for a LONG time. My old S330 had 16-bit converters, but nobody ever threw around the idea that it was anything other than a 12-bit sampler. Lots of other samplers also operated the same. Basically, it's like saying my HK CD player is capable of 24-bit audio because my converters are 24-bit. Ya know? So, no biggie, I just wanted to make that clear for those who think it's a 24-bit sampler.

Fair enough. That makes sense.

Much Respect

On the MPC 4000 forum, we've been discussing this, and it is very possible (though purely speculation) that MPC 4000 is NOT available in Europe at the moment, the same as the MV 8000. The MV 8000 is NOT available because it is not ROHS compliant (uses lead solder and such), so Roland HAD to release the MV 8800 so that they can sell in Europe as well.

As the MPC 4000 is NOT available in EU, it is very possible this is due to the ROHS legislation that went into effect there. So Akai is going to have redo some of the internals of the 4000 to be able to continue to sell it.

Again this is purely speculation. For all I know Akai was ahead of the game and already wasn't using lead solder, but I doubt it....

I dont understand what you need 24 minutes of sampling time to. I manage to use my 13 secs good.
