What's "audio tracks" feature on JJ OS ?

What's "audio tracks" feature on JJ OS unofficial firmware ?

Is that something like you can playback one or more long tracks directly form CF card, no need to load to RAM ? Like on multitrack recorder ?

(I appologize if I double this question, I wasn't able to find answer)

in JJ's os tracks 57-64 are Audio tracks. Which means you can record directly into the track from your inputs while playing your sequence (like a multi-track audio recorder). They're wicked! You can download the os to check for yourself (without paying).

Can I do also:

export song from computer splinted to four 6:00 min long tracks
(like drums, bass, leads, vocal)
save that 4 track to CF card
assign it to audio tracks 57,58,59,60
play it on MC1000 like from multi-track recorder directly from CF card bypassing RAM?

not straight from the CF card, only from ram. And the length of the sequence would need to be set to the length of the 6 min tracks to play the full length.

Well, then what's difference between "audio tracks" and 6-min long sample ?

Like i said, you can record directly into these tracks from the inputs while the sequence is playing.
From the main screen, instead of programs, you can select an audio sample that is played back from the track, and there's control for level, pan, fx etc on the main screen.

Once you get use to the setup, they're good for recording instruments or vocals over the sequences without going into record mode.

Check it for yerself mang. Wont cost you anything (but time) to try.

also with an audio track.. when you use mute/unmute it resumes playback.. with say a 6 min long sample, if you mute that track, the sample has to be triggered again to be heard.

Thanx, guys. Now it's more clear for me. I dont own MPC, so I can not try it out. I was asking, because I am considering between MPC 1000/2500 and Roland's stuff. probably MC808 or and MV. Roland is little bit stronger is this features, MV has 8 stereo tracks directly from harddrive, totaly like multitrack recorder, probably I will add little more money and do into MV.

this would get around the limited (by modern standards) 128mb ram cap.

so any longer sample thats going to limit your onboard ram capacity for other percussive (shorter samples) etc..., stream it from the HD.
does anyone reckon this would work.....?

i remember my old ASR10 did it.....and that was when it only had a max of 4mb of ram!! so streaming might not be so taxing for a small cpu.

Sounds like running sequence/song mode with disk access is a bit more than the platform can handle.

Wav! Akai guys said it's impossible? That's funny because in older sampler S5000 and S600 it was possible. Even with MPC4000 / Z4 / Z8 they promised in official specifications, but later on they change it. Aking for that feature on MPC4000, they told me YES it was announced in spec, but was not implemented and maybe in some next OS updrades. And you know meaning of "maybe" is "never" .... Akai guys should ask Roland guys, they know how to make it possible, at least at MV machines.

Technically it should not be a problem since your media is CF card or hard-drive. Regular memory cards does not do well in multi-thread reading or writing, but HD and CF cards can.
