you can always, cursor to the type of event at the top and select only the type of evnt u want to see, ie:all events, notes, or realtime etc...

if that helps any.

i think you're misunderstanding.

no matter what "View" you have selected, it will show every event for a track regardless of the step it's triggered on. changing the view only filters by the type of event.

with the 2000xl, it only showed events in the current step rather than having a long page with all events in the track.

this is what the all events screen looks like on the 2500:

001.01.00 View:ALL EVENTS
001.01.00 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127
001.01.48 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127
001.02.00 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127
001.02.48 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127

notice how you see 4 events, but each event is triggered on a different step? i would like to see something like this:

001.01.00 View:ALL EVENTS
001.01.00 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127

and then if you move two steps you'd see this:

001.01.48 View:ALL EVENTS
001.01.48 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127

two more steps and you'd see this:

001.02.00 View:ALL EVENTS
001.02.00 P:A03( 42)T: 0 D: 8 V:127

see how each of those screens only shows the events triggered in the current step rather than showing all events in the track? it would be so much easier to work with that way.

maybe an option can just be added to the Step Edit Options window to filter the view by the current step so only events triggered in the current step are shown.

yeah, i see now, to be honest i had no idea the xl was like that - it allmost seems crazy to have an lcd with so much space - yet to show just one event. (or was the screen really small , hence the limited display of data?)

..but i can see the benefits in terms of focus, although i differ in that i would prefer to see all the data, i like to see how an event relates to others...but yeah an option to choose to focus just on the step-specific event would be useful.... have you an idea why it was designed like that? was there ever an explanation in the manual etc...?

Perhaps the current even could simply be highlighted and place in the middle of the screen.

yeah centre scrolling is what u r after then? , or an '>' icon adjacent to the current event/step.

or just the current event/step allways at the top.

By Mike Feedback Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:42 pm
well, it already scrolls depending on what step you're at, so that's not really what i'm looking for.

it's so much easier just to hit the step button and see that there's no events on the current step because there's no events shown. then you can just keep moving until you see events and it will be clear which steps have events and which don't. it's easier to read that way.

the only downside to it is that if you recorded notes with timing off and then you have timing on when you're in step edit, you may not see those events because you'll skip over their page. but that's why there are the goto event buttons which i don't think is implemented on JJ yet, right?

but the step edit was one of the drawbacks i saw coming from the 2000xl to the 2500. that and the adjusting of end points. on the 2000xl, if you moved the data wheel slowly, it would move the end points one digit at a time, but if you moved the data wheel faster, the end points would move in larger jumps. you didn't have to hit the shift key to switch to the tens and hundreds positions for the end points to move in larger jumps, and you didn't have to hit zoom to move in smaller jumps. i honestly don't know why they got rid of that way of adjusting end points because it was perfect.

yeah that speed relative adjustment is well user friendly, my alesis quadraverb has velocity sensitive data increment buttons, behaving in a similar way to your description.

the new mpc's need this.

I've not used the xl so I'm not used to the way they do it but, I really like the way it's done on the 2500, it's nice because I can adjust events in relation to other events, this is easier than remembering what you did for each event up until this point because you can see it and you do have to remember it.

It's always easier to do things the way you originally learnt to do them but I can't help but think that in this case the change might've been a good thing because it lets you work more on the overall picture rather than in single frames.

I wouldn't be devistated if this was changed but I would be sad to see this current method go, I've been starting to find it to be very useful.

dont worry, it won't regress, i'm sure the designers see the 2500 as an improvement overall.

This is a request for the JJ 5.04 os

Be able to use the numeric keys in chop mode. When you hit the slice soft key, you can only use the jog wheel to change the amount of slices (starts at 16.0 then takes forever to get to like 2). It would be nice to enter the number then hit enter to change the amount of slices. Either that or be able to hold shift and left cursor to be able to scroll in larger increments.

more simultaneous effects, definately

Load/audition samples while sequence is playing.

It has been at the top of my list since JJ started. He said it's very difficult to implement. :(

If you hit shift and then move the wheel, the slices are being changed in whole numbers. But I still think it takes too long to dial in the number this way and would love to have support of the numeric pad.

Another idea: why not make individual slices directly accessible via the pads 1-12? 13-16 could still keep their functionality, and with the cursor right and cursor left keys you can choose either the start or end point of a slice just like it's working at the moment.

What do you think?

It's the same as in the original OS:

- 13 plays the sample from start to end in a LOOP
- 14 plays the sample UNTIL the position the cursor is on
- 15 plays the sample FROM the position the cursor is on
- 16 plays the whole sample start to finish regardless of start and end points.

Check it out, IMHO the greatest features when finetuneing start and end points by ear!
