I used a low pass filter to get a sub kick on one sample and resonance with band pass to get a low-mid tap on another sample. I want to layer these two sounds. Is the only way by re-sampling?
I keep having to resample at the moment.

put one sample on a pad, and put the other sample on the same pad, but different layer. how's that for simple? 8)

Dont think this allows you to filter each layer though. I find it easier to copy whole program and track. Then adjust filters or change whole samples in next track. This way you can also make those slight adjustments. Say having a clap slightly after the snare.

sorry, i misunderstood. you're right, filters work per pad so yeah, layering like i suggested won't work. you needn't copy program and track though. a simple copy pad works fine, and then copy the note events in step or grid edit, or else use simult although if you want the two samples to play at different times simult is no good.

oh oh oh, I hadn't thought of that, nice one!!!

use simult?

I assume the original poster is using Akai's OS, which has no simult.

oh i thought the akai os for the 2500 gave it autochromatic and simult.

it does have autochromatic assignment, right?

I'm using JJOS 5.0.4 of course!! no contest... apart from Direct Recording (and the fonts)!
Yeah, it would be nice, easy and convenient to be able to use layering. On my Casio FZ-1, filtering is per voice. For me, layering samples nearly always involves filtering each sample to get them to fit on top of one another frequency-wise. Guess I'll just have to find other ways, which is some o-tha fun.
But... come to think of it.... very, very frustrating. grrrrrr

This is the one basic requirement for layering samples isn't it.... Like if you want to layer a sub kick that has everything but the sub rolled-off, with a punchy kick with all its sub rolled-off, so they fit together perfectly?
Simple, basic beat requirements that should take you seconds to achieve in any beat-making sampler... surely being able to filter each sample and layer them go hand-in-hand

So why not use simult pad then? Put each layer on a diff pad and link them together.

I'll try. Not used it yet.. It just seems that this should be what layering is for, seeing as that's what I'm doing, layering sounds on top of one another...
cheers... I'll stop moaning now

I agree, separate processing for each layer would be nice. At least there are workarounds though.

I'd imagine there might be some sort of restriction here though. As I understand it, when you use one pad with several layers you use 1 (or 2 for stereo) voice of the 32 available. One the other hand when using the JJ Simult feature you will be using more voices for each pad you add.

Now there would appear to be 32 amp envelopes, 32 filter envelopes and 32 pairs of filters, what I don't know is whether or not they are implemented within the os or whether there are dedicated chips in there machine performing these tasks. If it is within the os then anything maybe possible, however if there are a finite number of hardware filters and/or envelope generators within the mpc then using more than one on single pad would have to use more voices. In all fairness this may not bother anyone but it's something to think about.

Sorry for my uninteresting brain dump :D

Oh, I got a question too...

With the simult pad thing I can only find the way to set it up using Mode + Pad 11, is there a way to do it on the Mute Group screen in program mode or can it only be done this way?
