Resampling Quality

Just a quick questions for those of you who have been using the 2500 for a minute with the JJ operating system. How is the quality of the resampling of the main outs? Is there a noticeable loss in quality between the source and the resample? Is there a drop in level or dulling of the sound, low frequency loss or anything of the sort?Thanks.

resampling the output intern does NOT affect the quality. you stay in the digital world, so digital data stays digital data.

You obviously haven't messed with many of these type beat boxes over the years. I understand the theory, but many boxes and computer programs degrade in quality when you resample internally and some drop the peak level or lose low end definition. Also on many of these boxes, when you resample your mix for instance, it will lose something in the dimension department. It becomes kind of 2D or flat. This is the truth. It has to do with the algorithm or whatever. That's why some digital is alot better than some other digital. So, someone with a decent monitoring system please throw a little beat together and then resample the mix. Please let me know if there is any noticeable difference in quality between playback of the new stereo file or playback of the original mix. It should take all of two minutes. Hopefully you won't notice a difference. Please be critical.

yes you do get a lower peak level but this is pretty normal, dont have my monitors on hand so i can thelp you with the loss of frequencies but i was say it is VERY minimal.

Thanks for your opinion. How many db loss in peak level would you estimate? I'm kinda bumbed about that. Anyone else?

The thing is i tend to narmalize after resampling to raise the level but this still doesnt reach 0bd i would say after resampling and narmalization it would still be around -2 to 3dB but this dosent really effect single hit samples but if your resampling the whole mix i would suggest tracking it out into a DAW. This is the way i do it, i only resample the mix to use as an audio folio to play to others or to remind me what traks i've done. If your just going to resample and leave it i would suggest it could be as low as -4 to 6dB BUT this all has to do with what you set your master out as, i always tend to have it set to -18dB. I'll do a test resample with my master level at 0dB and post my results.

if you resample it at lower levels, then bits are lost and its an sort of artificial compression, yes then you have quality difference. sample at same levels ofcourse.
