hi. i am using the mpc with jjos and a bunch of hardwaresynths. i make the drums on it and sequence the keys. i am not a good keyboarder and so i must often look at a scale or chord list. today i had the idea that i could make a "dummy programm" only for midioutput with the scales and chords in it. i think i can assign every new programm individual midinotes per pad, right?
so i can make a prg at c major, d major ........
what do you think? do you also have tips for a workaround with midiscales?
at last a question: is it possible to trigger more than one midinote per pad:
for example: pad 1/a triggers the notes c d e ......
so you can make different chords per pad and go freaky with the stuff

dang, this is actually a really good idea.

I'm pretty sure you can do this, but i'm not sure as i haven't used my MPC with any MIDI stuff yet.

as for the chords, you can do that with samples for sure, but i'm not sure with MIDI. you could have up to 4 at the same time though for each pad in a program.

Does the Simulit feature work with the midi output?

Try that.

good stuff... im about to find out..
and if so ima go through and make all sorts of cool chords all over each pad

tried the simult pad feature, but didnt work, DAMN!!!
you can assign a individual note per pad, but when you press one pad (with other pad in simult) only one padnote was transmitted.
or did i overlook something?

btw: this would be number 1 on my feature wishlist, cause i use the mpc mainly for sequencing and very rarly for sampling

awww, that sux.

The idea of placing macro functions on the pads (multiple notes, controller sweeps) was brought up some time ago but at this point we're not going to see any features like that added till some major changes take place,

i use single pad chords alllll the time
but it involves sampling the notes into the mpc rather than just using them via midi

however, though it takes several more seconds, i think it's worth it BECAUSE:

1- setting 3 midi notes to 1 pad would have the sound stack like this:

1
2
3

all playing at EXACTLY the same time, as if you had pressed all 3 keys simultaneously.

however, if you sample them, you can fool around with timing a bit more by adding time before the note actually happens, so you get something more natural sounding:

1
.2
..3

where the notes ROLL into place rather than all hit at 1 time.

am i making sense?

i started building something like a one-pad-chord-pgm a while ago, but never really got it finished. you can download here: http://www.funxnotdead.de/stuff/CHORD1.PGM

load this in your mpc and rename a sample you want to play as chords to "CRD1". now you have some common chords on bank A of this pgm. look at program-mode (the old one) to see how this works.

its a very fast way to have some chords to play with when your no keyboard-player.

you can put more cords the same way to banks B - D or combine this with simult to have chords with more than four notes... but for being lazy and not knowing much about chords i never did this.

anyone knows the fabolous omnichord? it's the strangest instrument i've ever played, google it! it has 3 buttons for every note: major, minor and 7. if you push c minor, it plays a note-on c minor chord.
making a pgm like this would be killer. you can assign chromatic samples to bank b - d and use the a-bank for simult-padded chords.

you can also do this with midi information... record midi and shift a few notes for the strumming effect

i often use synthsounds... to sample chords i thinks its faster to use a midichorder plugin on the pc/mac to your synth/soundmodule and then sample the chord with the mpc....
this is what i have often done, but it sucks when i allways have to turn on the pc

i am not a programmer, but i think (hope) its not a big deal for jj to programm this feature in the simultpad feature, cause it works for samples but not for midi.
so why called the mpc: midi production center? there a a lot of chord/scale features in other workstations like triton, fantom etc.
this should be a must for a main sequencer!

how can i say this to jj?
should i write him directly?

@303a danke fürs programm, werds mir mal ansehen

i don't think simult will ever operate with MIDI because that could create loops - think - note A simult triggers note B, and note B triggers note A... then A triggers B and so on until you have a lot of noise and the MPC crashes. It would be a big problem...

With pad-level simult the way it is now there only sounds are triggered, not MIDI events, therefore it cannot become a loop. so even if you set up pads to be reciprocally simult (A->B and B->A) you will only get A&B when you press either A or B - there's no cascade of events...

What's a good midichorder app for mac??
