The problem with threads like this is they assume to much.
I mean really, we all use computers to some extent, cause we wouldnt be on this forum if we didnt.
The producer who only uses hardware and no computers at all (the real technophobe the software supporters think they are arguing against) isnt going to log on to defend himself.
So it comes down to: is your personal studio wieghted to hardware or software? And the answer is...
totally irrelevent. Who cares?
Its like: yeah, I wuz gonna cop that new 9th wonder ish, but when I found out he uses fruity loops I decided not to. Fruity loops is wack so even though I liked his beats before I hate them now.
or: yeah, I thought madlib was the man untill I found out he used a sp-303. I cant listen to that kinda "unprofessional" music. Its bad for my soul.
Both viewpoints are stupid. So why is this thread gonna be four pages long? Cause people cant get over it and need to talk an unimportant topic to death instead of making music. I can see the cat sitting with reason going "hmmm... my set-up sounds stupid wack. maybe i'll go over to the mpc forum and make fun of the cats that own the hardware I wish I had."
Its like... "Im so into computers, man, that when I went into the studio I said 'no thank you, sir. I have my compressor and reverb in reason. Im not using any of your fancy 10,000 dollar processors, man. Im part of the future with my lil' lap top here thank you very much.'" Yeah right.
Remeber back when cats used to argue over EMU vs. Akai samplers?
That made a little more sense as you could actually compare them.
Lampdog made the same point here, and he's right. (By the way, good to hear your doing alright lamp).
What is the use of comparing a specific instrument (the mpc) with a vauge category ("software")?
Its not just like comparing apples and oranges, its like comparing apples (the mpc) with vegetables (the hundreds of different good and bad softeware programs out there).
Fck it! Eat both!
