I'm not rich ,I'm just a hard worker. Been driving 18 wheelers since 1994.

However now on an OS1.71-formatted drive with the latest Ak.Sys driver, I can transfer the whole hard drive without a crash. Pity it's super-slow USB 1.1 though...

Kalei wrote:Ok thanks for that info feline. I just updated the intel chipset drivers on my fairly new motherboard (asus p5b deluxe) and use the latest usb driver from akai. It still crashed after a few mb's. So next step is im gonna backup everything from the hd in the mpc and reformat with os 1.71 and see if that helps. That's funny, I'm pretty much using the same mobo (asus p5b +) and I'm not experiencing any crashes. However my setup is used exclusively for audio/media stuff without any admin software like OFFICE XP or something to that nature. Plus the network drivers are disabled as well. To me, all that extra stuff not pertaining to recording, robs the machine of precious resources.
Ill post my results later..

I mean I got my MPC4000 is 2002, with OS 1.16 (?),
and the volume label on the internal hard drive was ... oh I forget,
but that's not important,
point is it was DIFFERENT to the one I got when I reformatted under OS 1.71.
So Akai changed the format routine.
if they changed the code, why can't they bloody well document that fact and tell us what they changed?!
Then we can see whether the change would affect Ak.sys!
