What he is saying is he prefers to let his brain run wild with the swing.
That "bounce" is machine generated/ drummer emulated. Use quantize off and use your own feeling with your own created swing. Some people don't have that swing in their brains and need the quantize to get the track moving how they want. To each his own but I sway toward BG's statement.
exactly, and if things are out then u can individually edit to taste...
Not only that but u dont have to and most peeps dont play the whole drums together, most will put down hi hats, kicks, snares etc individually on seperate sequencer tracks.. and not many people cant play each individuals in time, otherwise that gotta mean u got real bad rhythem, if u cant play them like that then never concider becomin a dj lol
Even makin beats is a bit alien for some one like that
I mean word.
Straight up do you think RJD2 used 'quantize' on "Chicken-Bone Circuit"?
or (this is complicated) but do you think Dj Shadow used it on "Endtroducing"? no. (maybe for the hit hats sometimes) but other than that, be a musican, not a computer. These machines are simply a medium for your craft, that is all.
yes actually endtroducing is very much quantized. organ donor, Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain...
And he uses loops a lot too
the people at anticon are a different story. I dont think dj shadow can play his mpc the way Jel does. the only thing i saw dj shadow do, is pressing a bassline and "pushing buttons".. not really "play" them
