Not true. A bootleg is just that, and it is
ALWAYS easy to detect a bootleg because it lacks original specs such as cover art, original record label printing, sound quality, etc (ie: Dusty Fingers, Strictly Breaks, U.B.B., white label printings, etc). Bootlegs don't pose a threat in terms of your collection.
A repress is often just that. A good example is the Funkadelic represses that came out a few years ago. These were pressed by the owner of the Bridgeport catalog who had the master tapes, and the records had the exact specs as the originals. If both are the same condition, put 'em side by side and you would not be able to tell the difference. I get pissed whenever a repress comes out because now I got something (OG copy) that I can no longer say is rare or special if "New Digger Dave" can go to the local spot and cop it.
Also think of it like this...The Jordan Retros vs. the OGs. You can look at a retro shoe, and even tho it's designed like the OG, you can tell it's not an original, but it's still manufactured by Nike so it's not a bootleg. That's what makes the OGs more expensive than the retros. You can look at them and spot things such as colors that distinguish it as an OG.
