The 2500 won't receive another OS upgrade anytime soon from Akai so JJ is the only OS upgrade path.
The 4k does 100x more than the 1k or 2500 and if JJ can't find and debu those machines he would make a real nightmare of the 4k.

Now go back under your bridge and complain some more because JJ hasn't fixed a bug you reported 2 months ago.

The 4000 is king beast of the MPC species. High end sample libraries are are not handled well because of the 2500 not being a true multi-sampler.

Also, the comfort of the non-fatiguing screen makes life so much easier if you using for more than an hour..

There's a thread w/ a link on here that I think was posted about 2-3 months ago pertaining to a group doing some research on a 4k O.S. or something to that nature. I'll have to see if I can find it.

^ Thats just an ak.sys replacement. Unfortunately the OS development hit the wall unless someone can retreive the source code. I'm at peice with what we have though, the thing works great for me and I could never go back to any other MPC.

Sure we'd all like more features, but there are still people on 2k classics asking for a new OS too. You won't see the 2500 get a crapload of new features either though... its still basically the same damn MPC with a few extra bells and whistles. As said above, no MPC can touch the 4000 unless the gimicky features are what are important to you and not the sequencing/sampling engine.

To be honest, most people that use MPCs don't need more than a phrase sampler, so you just get what you need. If all you want to do is chop samples, ANY mpc can do it, new ones just do some of the work for you.

JJ hacked the 2500 and 1000 without the source being surrendered. They simply decompiled the the OS. I don't see why they don't do the same for the 4000 unless it's a case of too few owners in comparison to the newer models.

I still believe it would be a killer move to make all mpc- OS Open Source. The features and fixes would be of the chart. It might hinder new machine sale as newer models are released.

Believe me JJ working freelance on the 4k OS would be a nightmare or new level of frustration.
If you have owned a 2500 and used the JJ OS then you know how the OS takes one step forward and thre steps back with each release.
The problems becomes annoying because you are doing the Bug Finds for him so you are basically looking for what's broken not what has been added.
The bugs he has added have been anything from missing features to instant crashes with the push of a button.
With the 4k's deeper feature set and abilities that's just more things for him to break.
The whole impression I got in the 8 or so months I had JJ various OS's was he goal was never to make a bug free OS.
He was constantly trying to add new features without first resolving the existing issues.
With all the versions that has been released each has had bugs and if he fixed them a newer version they were simply replaced with new bugs.
The JJ OS taught me how to appreciate the 4k.

Yep ur exactly right. Except you are leaving out that your machine is UNSTABLE IN ALL ASPECTS and will NEVER BE FIXED. So that your samplilng/midi workstation with the best hardware/bitrate and make somthing that will make it freeze up....hmmm how bout a sequence, or a use Ak.sys? Just remember it'll NEVER NEVER NEVER be fixed. You bought a NEW BENZ with broken alternator and a busted water pump that Mercedes wont fix cokksucker!

oh yes, and YOU, one that doesnt own a 4k, is gonna teach ME (one that actually own one) that MY machine dont work.

well, i managed to do a full album with it , play live a lot of times, get together beats for friends, with only the minor problems EVERY gear gives you sooner or later.

for me it works perfectly as told in lotta threads.

it has his cons but it is the machine that suits all my needs.

only a computer can compete.
