Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

the 1000 forum has a feature request post, so now it's time for ours. here's some of the requests that i've been asking for from the beginning, most of them stem from me having had the 2000xl for so long and the 2500 lacking features which made the 2000xl so user friendly.

1. in load screen, only F5 ("PLAY") should audition samples from disk, pressing pads should play the sounds loaded in the current program. this is essential if you're loading drums and want to make sure that they match the samples you've already assigned to pads.

2. in trim screen, the speed at which you spin the data knob should determine the amount of steps the end points take regardless of what zoom you're in. slow spinning will adjust end points by 1, spinning a little faster will adjust end points by 10, faster by 100, even faster by 1000, etc. you shouldn't have to hit zoom 10 times just to adjust an end point by 1 digit like in the JJ OS, and you shouldn't have to hit shift + cursor to adjust an end point by larger numbers like in the Akai OS.

3. in trim screen, pressing pads 1 - 12 should play sample as one shot (mono) rather than note off.

4. in step edit, add a view called "Current" which will list only the events triggered at the current step. so if you're at step 001.01.48, it will only display the events triggered at 001.01.48. events triggered between 001.01.00 and 001.01.47, and between 001.01.49 and the end of the sequence are not shown. also, save the view so that it doesn't have to be selected each time the mpc is powered on.

5. add the ability to punch in record while a sequence is playing.

6. add the ability to step edit from the main screen (i.e. pressing record or overdub in main screen and then pressing a pad will record that pad to the current step).

7. add direct recording on any track like the 2500's Akai OS. i don't find audio tracks useful at all.

8. save TC on power off.

Great requests. But will JJ continue to develop the OS or just fix bugs?

this would be the best thing ever added to jj os,
I often talked about it, but someone sad to me it´s not possible for the2500 to access HD and RAM at the same time, don´t know if its correct!?

i often wondered how they envelope their beats without listening to the already loaded samples (while loading new samples)

sometimes i load whole folders (BDs, Snares...) listen to them while sequence playing ,then i have to purge to free memory

sometimes i record a short loop of the existing thing with my computer,
loop the loop ,then listen in mpc load screen to samples

but its enough to listen to the used program to realize if the sample will fit after loadind or not
this feature is really importend for me and for many other users too, i think .
i didn´t know that its possible with the 2000xl ,i want that feature NOW!

i can do that with a footswitch ,i use 2 of them . one to punch in/out overdub , the other one to punch in/out rec
maybe he could route the footswitch modes to a button on mpc

just a clarification, the 2000xl didn't have the ability to audition sounds off of disk due to the loading speed of floppy/zip. you had to load the sample, and then you would get a window where you could press play, cancel or keep, but the whole time you were able to press pads and play what was already in your program, whether in the keep/cancel window or the regular load screen.

and i doubt that whole thing about not being able to access ram and HD at the same time. that would be pretty ridiculous. although you're not going to be doing both at the same time anyway, you're either going to press a pad, or press the play soft key.

ah ok ,something like a preload ,its still a nice feature but not usefull to listen
to many samples

so that dream will not come true :( to play the program in load screen and at the same time play a sample from disk with the soft key

He doesn't mean that. You can punch in like that by hitting Overdub+play at any time.
He means punch-in record audio, like you can with Akai's Direct Record.
Unless your saying that punch-in record of audio tracks works with a footswitch? In that case I've got ears like wingnuts!

Bring back Direct Record Akai stylee!

this is what i mean by punch in record while a sequence is playing...

1) press play.
2) while sequence is playing, press overdub.
3) hit pads to add to sequence.

currently, you have to press stop to stop the sequence before entering into overdub mode.

Try....

1) press play.
2) while sequence is playing, press play + overdub.
3) hit pads to add to sequence.

Im pretty sure this work. Not at my mpc right now....

how the heck did i miss that? i coulda sworn that on the 2000xl you didn't have to press play while holding overdub, but i just checked the manual and you did have to on the 2000xl.

i can cross that off my list, but i still want to be able to step edit from the main screen.

I have something I'd like to see changed...

I record from CD's sometimes, from the internal cd drive

I know in the JJ OS you can go to load, hit play on whatever track, and then when you want to record, hit REC and it records and autonames the sample according to the default naming settings

Then, if you go into record mode, you can record something off a CD track, but after your done naming it, the track is back to the beginning, instead of remembering where you last recorded from

so if i go into record mode, record something 1:27 into the track, name it, then want to continue the track where i left off, i have to start back at 0:00

but if I go into LOAD, and record from there, my first problem is fixed, but now I can't name my files after I record them, and I do not want to go back and rename every "sample01, sample02, etc."

I should be able to go into record mode, and sample from CD's like JJ has it in load mode, but be able to name it afterwards....Akai's OS is like this and it's much better

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured this out...you gotta set the name before you sample, then go through with it...it's actually alot quicker than Akai's way

I'd like to see the track solos work in the song mode so that it's easier to dump individual tracks into a DAW

couldn't you just convert the song to a sequence and then use track mutes?

A "Prev/Next Sequence" in the Footswitch could be great too.
