Supply and demand really. They're not worth that much anymore. Remember something is only worth what you can get it for. An OG import is just as good as an OG non-import. Unless your digging for 'bragging rights' as you put it, but then I still don't see the difference.

indough wrote:An original import is worth the same as an original non-import.

The import I showed you in my first post was an original.

An original copy of 2001 is worth no more than a reissue. At least not a significant amount. Unless $10-15 is a significant amount to you?

Anyway, you said it yourself man

DBA wrote:I've said this time & time again. As long as there is a re-issue with the same exact quality in the audio, and jacket design, your original pressing is only worth bragging rights.

^^ And I said that when the import/re-issue is READILY available (walk into any record shop who's on top of their game and they will have it). We had this discussion with the Skull Snaps LP. The re-issue is available at will so IMO, the original is worth just that, approx. $9.99 (many will disagree). In this case, with Chronic 2001, you just can't walk into any record store and cop. You gotta hunt down an import that was recently pressed, and have it shipped to you.

Dude, it is readily available. It took me no more than 10 seconds to find it and it won't take more than 3-4 days to arrive. It's not exactly hard work if you want to save $$$. Like I said, the copies in my first post are originals, not re-pressings.

Readily available is NOT looking for it on the internet, finding it, bidding on it, waiting for the auction to end, hopefully winning (because you never know when you'll see it again), sending payment and waiting for it to arrive. If this is your definition of readily available then there is nothing that's rare because we can all go on the internet and find anything we want and don't have and somebody will have it.

Going to a store, asking the clerk "hey do you have such and su....thank you"....Going to another store, asking the clerk "hey do you have such and su....thank you"....Going to one more store, asking the clerk "hey do you have such and su....thank you" = READILY AVAILABLE

Brand new DVD players = READILY AVAILABLE

Brand new VHS players = READILY AVAILABLE

Brand new Betamax players = NOT READILY AVAILABLE

Brand new Laserdisc players = Good luck

Oh thanks for your definition of readily available that means absolutely fu(k all to anyone, Dre's 2001 is much more available than a betamax so your analogy is severely flawed. Look, if you can get it without much hassle (which you can) then it is readily available. there are 3 copies of the original pressing available at this time, so you can pretty much guarantee that there will usually be at least one the next time you look. That qualifies it as readily available, END OF STORY. Just because you don't have the patience to wait a couple of days for delivery that doesn't mean that the rest of us don't. And not everything is available on the internet, don't be so stupid.

So wait....your definition of readily available is "there are 3 copies available right now"??? Like I said, if something is readily available there is no need to search on the internet, or elsewhere....Keywords being NEED & SEARCH.

I can get an Blue Apollo 5 speed bike in mint condition, not at any of the numerous bike stores in my town, your town, or any town, but by searching the internet, because that's what I would need to do to get one. Does this sound readily available???

You said "not everything is available on the internet" but found copies of something that's out of print using the internet??? Now I challenge you to go find a rack full (or even just three LPs) in a record store since they're so "readily available", and then you will have proven me wrong.

Dre 2001 = 3 copies available

Vs.

Betamaxes = MORE THAN DRE'S 2001 AVAILABLE, SO THEY MUST REALLY REALLY BE READILY AVAILABLE!!!

Damn your being real stupid. You didn't even specify 'readily available' in your original post, now your backtracking and changing your argument at will. yes ordering off ebay does make it readily available, yes finding 3 copies the first time I look does make it readily available. No there are not more betamaxs still around than copies of Dre's 2001. Yes people who overuse the rolleyes icon are ignorant morons.

Yeah its at $12 with 5 days to go, plus its a CD, not vinyl. Thats hardly the same thing as what I pointed out with the 2001 records.

Once again, you're little definitions of what makes something readily available don't mean anything. If you can get something for a price, then thats what it's worth. END OF STORY, CASE CLOSED, PERIOD.

See..your missing the point. Readily available means that you don't need tools (internet, eBay, etc) to get what you want/need. Off the bat, to find this, what did you do?? You hit a SEARCH button.

Search = 1: To look into or over carefully or thoroughly in an effort to find or discover something. 2: to make painstaking investigation or examination.

Readily = Without much difficulty.

Available = Present, or ready for immediate use.

(These are not my definitions but Merriam Webster)

Readily available means you have the choice of do I wanna use the internet, do I wanna go to the local record store, do I wanna buy from an online store, do I trade a record with the thousands of people looking to trade this specific record, etc, because "I can easily get what I want/need from anywhere, anytime"....(ie: present, or ready for immediate use, without much difficulty). From your point of this argument, if you don't have the internet/computer, don't like shopping online (there are still people who don't like using computers for purchasing and putting in personal info), are the type that loves the record store experience versus online buying, you do not have an eBay account, don't agree with eBay/PayPal policies so you don't support them (again, there are people out there), had a bad experience on eBay and are leery with purchasing, or even if there was no such thing as eBay, guess what....it's notreadily available to get Dre' 2001 vinyl. Any one of those reasons listed can stop you from copping the vinyl, so that x's "readily" (ie: without much difficulty) right there.

I counted 6 Betamaxes to your 3 vinyls, so I don't know what the hell your talking about.

Is Dre's vinyl available....yes, it's out there (ok, you've proven that). Can I get it anytime, anywhere, wherever, whenever, equaling readily available without having to search (ie: in an effort to find or discover) for it....no.

The CD IS readily available because I can go to Circuit City, Rhapsody, Virgin Megastore, mostly any/all online store that sells hip hop CDs, Best Buy, eBay, URGE, burn the CD from a friend, mom & pop record stores, Wal-Mart, Super Wal-Mart, Target, pawn shops, ITunes, and maybe even the bootleg guy on the corner, and come up on however many copies no problem. (again...ie: without much difficulty)

I still challenge you to find at least 3 LPS IN A REAL RECORD STORE IN THE REAL WORLD since they are readily available to you.

Dude your way off point. Readily available does not mean that you don't use tools. What if you don't live within walking distance of your record store? What do you do? You drive there. Does that mean that the record wasn't readily available, because you used as tool (your car) to get it? No it doesn't. If there are 3 copies of it online the first time I check then it is readily available. To your comments about people who don't use ebay for whatever reason, so what, that doesn't change the fact that it's available to them. It's their choice whether they chose to avail of it or not. That doesn't change the fact that it's there.

Checking the definitions of individual words then putting them together doesn't give you the definition of the phrase anyway. For example, a steak house is not a house made of steak. A greenhouse is not a house thats been painted green. The fact also remains that you never specified readily available in your initial post. You speculated on the value of an OG copy of 2001, and I showed you that the value of an OG copy of 2001 is worth no more than $20-25. It doesn't matter where that copy comes from.

Hold up now you backtracking..... You initial came on here posting some re-issues...NOT OGs. You found what....two OG copies?? (and that's a fact). What you meant to/shoulda said was there are OG copies out there, you just have to search for them....see I found two.

OK...let's say that this OG IS worth $25.00....That's still more than when it first came out ($12 - $16). Mind you....you only found TWO O.G. copies, and quick to say it's readily available. If I buy both, what does that make it?? EXACTLY....ONE PERSON can't make anything go from "readily available" to not another one in sight. The re-issue/import IS NOT AN OG so GTFOHWTBS, and even those don't seem to be easy to come by unless your on eBay, and plus at this point, THEY ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE OG'S.

When I said "readily available" I said:

so where did I NOT make it clear?? Would that logic not apply to how I described the CD version as readily available?? (walk into any record shop who's on top of their game and they will have it).

As I said, I made a killing in the real world with those LPs/singles back in 2000 when it went out of print, and they damn sure weren't readily available then (OG, reissue, import, bootleg, or otherwise).

Here are your posts:

OG COPY

OG COPY

REISSUE PRESSED IN 07 & NOT AN OG, NOT AN OG, NOT AN OG!!!

REISSUE PRESSED IN 07 & NOT AN OG, NOT AN OG, NOT AN OG!!!

REISSUE PRESSED IN 07 & NOT AN OG, NOT AN OG, NOT AN OG!!!

That's 5 copies (real & repressed) of something that the worldwide sales sit @ Diamond (10 mil sold). So if the OG copies sell now for 10 bucks a piece and then...oops there are no more, what do you think it's gonna be worth when people search for it and only find these 3 represses available in 5 yrs??.... < (I meant readily available  )

You said:

indough wrote:and it doesn't matter to me whether it's an import or what its street date is as long as it has the album full of songs on it.

So it's obviously have not witnessed a serious digger from say, Japan scorn all reissues/represses/bootlegs to pay crazy Yen/Dollars/Euros for a sought after original...ANYTHING THEY CAN GET THEIR HANDS ON!!

What are you talking about? Look at the prices, OG copies of 2001 are worth no more than the repressings. Your original post about 2001 said that it was worth something. It's worth $20-25. Sure thats at best $9-10 more than originally, but thats not really anything worth writing home about. Buying both OG copies off ebay won't stop the fact that there will probably be another 2 or 3 next week either, remember it was the first time I checked, it would have to be some coincidence if they just happened to come up on ebay then and hadn't been around before.

The record is just not worth much, you were wrong. There's no need to get into a hissy fit about it, it was a simple mistake.

Sure you made money when the record was in demand, but supply has exceeded demand now. If the record were rare, they'd be charging more than the $20 that they are. I have an OG copy myself and every DJ I know who rocks vinyl does too.

Heres your original post, where exactly does it state that it must be in stock at your local record store (i.e. your definition of 'readily available'?

DBA wrote:If you guys wanna know a rap record that could be worth some money??

The instrumental is easy to find, but the vocal version was out of print only a few months after it was released.

Like I said before, I know what serious record digging is, a serious record digger makes use of all resources available to them (including ebay). What you're referring to is the elitist among record diggers who think that unless you're staring at a 1,000 record pile of music in front of your face then you're not digging. Those types of guys are just assholes.

Yes, Yes...Read that original post.... COULD BE WORTH MONEY

Anyway, here is something that is READILY AVAILABLE. You can find this one on ebay, and in dollar bins across the world.
