Gregg,
Sometimes AKAI or specific Dealers will run various promotions on MPC’s at times, so there may be some units out there that already have some options installed. If you are fortunate enough to find a unit with this option already installed, that’s great. I have no way of knowing what models any particular store has on their shelves.

I'm waiting to hear what Akai tells me in their e-mail. If they are truly manufacturing new 1000's with the pad upgrade already installed and then selling them for the same price as they always were, then I think a class action lawsuit would stand a very good chance at holding up in court.
Also, has anyone tried to get the pad upgrade under warranty yet?
I can understand them wanting to charge for users who are out of warranty (although the 180 price tag is ridiculously high considering the situation) but users with broken pads should be able to get new ones under warranty it would seem.
Anybody here got any lawyer friends and a lot of spare time? (I never actually bought my 1000 new, so I really have no room to **** about things from a legal standpoint)
