newer mpc takes 16bit when most pros wish to master at 24 bit or higher, it's ok for them if they're mixing that in with other stuff that's 24 bit (or higher) but in general you want a master that's better than CD quality not equal to it. an mpc is a sampler first sequencer second (imo) so i guess it would be ok slaved up to other (better) gear.

however

the average music customer could not care a fcuk if it's 16 or 24 or whatever bits, they first have to understand that they can have different file formats at varying quality ("how many songs can i get on an ipod? -oh fcuk orfff!!") without understanding their mp3's are probably not CD quality & listening thru crap earphones anyway.

[most] people want to know about interesting sounds not jargon, if i buy a record i like, find it's done on basic kit in a shed, do i take it back? no, if anything i would respect them more. but nowadays the bar's been raised with production so if you're wanting to make money you gotta compete, unless you can pull off something sooo original it stands out.

I'm using an MPC1000, works great for me.

That being said.. I want, not need, a 60ii and a 3000.

all it takes is a "big producer" to say i use this and that, and every kid is gonna follow, cus most people think if they get that certain thing, they will sound just like that.

^^^ too right. and if it's heard that a top producer uses a cow bell and samples it via mic, all of a sudden everyone's gotta get one.
i got keen on MPC's after seeing DJ Shadow's use of the MPC60/3000 in his live sets, not to mention his albums put together on them. Looking MPC's a a bit more, I saw how Boon Doc was flowin on the 1000.
I settled on neither models, getting the 2000XL as it's robust, suits my needs and budget. That's what should come first and foremost, not who uses them.
Got an SP303 before I knew Madvillain produced with it, which just made me feel better about the machines potential.

NB: australia hip hop band 'The Hilltop Hoods' use a 1000 in producing and live performances.

i've read somewhere that Dre from Cool 'n' Dre uses the 1K too.

D-Block in house producer Vinyl Idol used the 1k to make "Still Alive" on AZ's A.W.O.L on the road.

you guys are all trippen about the wrong shit. bottom line is this: Just becuase you dropped $3000 on a piece of gear dose not mean you will be able to produce a hit. The mpc 1000 is not a toy and is a fully capable machine. What this boils down to is just like everything else in life. It's not what you got or how much your set up cost or weather or not the pro's use this or that, It's what you can DO with what you have. If your set up works, then it works. opinions don't matter. everyone has there own

Disco D [R.I.P.] was using the 1000 for a lot of projects he got paid for... he used to post about it in the forums here a while back... matter of fact, every other post of his was about how much he was loving the mpc1000 and using it when away from his mpc4000 at his home studio...

I guess I'm considered a "professional" as in I'v been supporting my family with my music since 1995 with releasing my music and I still to this day have NOT once made a song on a computer (not that I shouldn't) Its just I grew up on analog and discovered my first MPC2000 in 1995 and have since had 2000XL and 4000 and recently bought a 1000
I live and breathe on the 4000 and have produced 4 albums with that and my analog modular systems.
The 4000 is the heart of my studio.
I dig the 1000 as it has the harddrive but it is not nearly as fast and efficient (for me) as the 4000
But I use almost every function on the 4000 as it has incredible features that many beginners probably will never even see as you can get by doing the basic functions and easily make beats.
The JJ OS on the 1000 is dope however and Im using some of those unique features as well.
I have tried to make the jump to computers but I keep going back to the 4000 but Im kinda old too and set in my ways
