Actually there is a way to get a monitor reading in the mpc while recording the main outs.
1. Make sure you are recording the main outs (mode + pad 5) input: main out
2. Go to an audio track ( shift > F4)
3. Go to grid edit (mode + pad 15)
Once you press and hold down the record button, you should see a meter (LR) in the bottom right corner of the track box ( on the left side of your screen). You'll also see "Main Out Stereo" .
When you press play along with the record, after the countdown the meter will reflect the volume of the audio being recorded.
There is no db reading, but i assume that if it reaches the top of the box then the audio is clipping. In which case you could adjust it in the effects section or master level (mode + pad 10)
