I think their may be professional that own MPC 1000s but I would be suprised if any of them use them as their main MPCs when they can get an MPC 2500.

My suggestion would be a 1000, 2000xl, 2500, 4000, or the new 5000.

All of these are SERIOUS MACHINES...

Some cats don't take the 1000 seriously because of it's smaller size/looks but anyone whos watch a youtube video of boonie mayfield know that you can bang out some serious beats with a 1000. all the higher model numbers will do more stuff than the 1000 as well (feature-wise)

the 60's and 3000 are really well built but youll typically find them lacking in FEATURES comparing to the other models...I'd howeverd stay away from the 500 for ergonomic/expandibility reasons.

Good luck homeslice...just remember that a new and better piece of equipmewnt will always be coming out...i found out about the mpc5000 a couple days after i copped my 2500 but Im not trippin cause i got plenty to learn on the piece i got so...just let your imagination and creativity limit your musical reputation...not your equipment.

It doesn't really matter which MPC you have, or if you even have an MPC at all. It's not the tools that make the difference, it's the artist. Lots of the hugely respected pros have used what ever does the job in the given situation, even if it actually WAS a children's toy (that has happened countless times in the music production history).

In the end it's all about your own talent and creativity. Find the tools which feel good for YOUR workflow. Don't ask if some professionals use the same tools that you're looking for. That leads you nowhere. You're not the other people. You're an individual. You have your own style and workflow. Your own intuitive workflow will most definitely suit you much better than, say, Dr. Dre's or Stuart Price's.

I love my 1000.
I have used several other boxes like the ASR & Yamaha RS7000.
The MPC 1000 chops & edits the audio about as fast as my cpu.
Trust me chopping or stretching sucks on old boxes w/ slow processing power. I would rate the 1000 well over my older XL w/ JJOS.
The 2500 is better I admit but after playing with it I can't say the Pads are worth an extra 1000.
The 1000 is fine for pro beats as long as you take advantage of the outs.
(Use the stereo outs as 5 & 6.)
The polyphony on the 1000 is low. If you run out & your using multiple outs resampling is out of the question & will kill your workflow for certain.
I'd like to have double polyphony out of my 1000.

Can you explain to me what the advantages polyphonywise are of a 2000XL vs a 1000? I'm going to cop a 1000 or a 2000XL this week but was leaning toward the 1K since the Hardrive option and the faster time stretch, and not to mention the JJ OS. What do you think is the better machine??

I make music & don't get into specs so much.
I'm on the forum to learn about jjos.
The 1k is like lightning bolt when you chop samples or edit compared to the 2k xl.
It's no comparison!
CF is so much better than a floppy or zip disk also.
The 2k xl's advantages are bigger pads & a hinged screen.
I didn't even pay attention to polyphony until I began running out.
Even if you buy the 2500 it is still the same though.
Guys like "nym" know way more about features & specs than I ever will.
I have no use to learn them.
PM him he is cool.
I don't think anyone on this board would say get the xl over a 1k though.
It cost more & does the same stuff slower & w/ worse saving options.
When you factor in jjos2 the 1k does mad more stuff.
Not to say you cant make hits on the xl, people still do, but if your buying 1 new it is the 1k without a doubt.
If your looking used then thats up to you based on price & condition.

And to answer you simply the ...
MPC 1000
MPC 2500
MPC 2000XL
All have equal polyphony.

The xl is one of the dopest machine ever made. The sweetness of the pads are unmatched by the 1000 and that alone makes the diference. Also the xl is build like a tank while the 1000 is cheaper made.consider the 1000 a portable version of the xl.

its a myth. nothing is 100% sound in / sound out. The 1000 sounds like crap yo. Only Reason sounds worse.
