I guess there is no time like the present to post OS 1.01 bugs in the MPC 5000.

1. Graphic Matrix Editor (GME). At random, you can not play sounds or record in the GME. However, if you hold down the note repeat button, your sounds will play. Take your finger off of note repeat..and no sounds play.

For this Grid Edit Bug, I don't do anything complex. I used one of the preloaded drum kits to create a drum pattern. I sampled a phrase off a record and chopped it into 8 samples then assigned it to a program. After getting the sequences to sound the way I want, I entered the Grid Edit Mode. When I hit the pads, it won't play any sounds or let me record while in this mode. When this happens, if you go into the Q-link Edit page (Q-link mode + open window), the pads won't trigger any sounds as well.

Once this bug surfaces, Grid Edit will not work until I restart the MPC.

2. No sure if this qualify as a bug but this is something you should avoid. In the Sample Recording Mode, I set the input to CD as a source to sample from. As the CD played a track, I pressed the CD eject button. The CD ejected but the audio from the CD kept playing..to my suprise. After that, the CD drive as well as the hard drive can no longer be used until the MPC 5000 is rebooted.

#3 Multi-timbral Mode Bug

1. Set MPC 5000 to Multi-timbral mode
2. Assign a synth program to track 1 and set the track to MIDI 1A
3. Assign a different synth program to track 2 and set the track to MIDI 1B
4. Try sending MIDI data to both MIDI INs (A and B) at the same time
5. The two programs don't always play together. Sometimes, one of programs will sustain or a note will get stuck.

When thuis function is working correctly, it should sound as if your are playing a layered synth program.

is it a bug or a feature that was not implemented?
is that function available in other MPCs with 2 MIDI ins?

The MPC 4000 and 5000 are the only MPCs that are also multi-timbral sound modules. Yes, it is a bug. Pg 171 in the Reference Manual outlines the multi-timbral feature. Unfortunately, it works but not flawlessly.

#4 Pad sensitivity bug

1. The pad sensitivty menu isn't behaving properly.
2. While in this menu, I press the FULL LEVEL key.
3. When I hit a pad, it doesn't always register a velocity of 127 as it should no matter how soft you hit a pad.
4. The MPC 2500 (both Akai and JJ OS) will register a velocity of 127 (while in the pad sensitivity mode) when FULL LEVEL is turned on.

#5 MPC 2500 compatibility bug?

1. Using MPC 2500 (Akai OS 1.23), create a sequence and program and save ALL Programs/Samples to a CF card
2. Insert the CF card into MPC 5000
3. Try to load the MPC 2500 ALL FILE from the CF card
4. Choose Load single SEQ
5. The MPC 5000 can not load the single SEQ and will display "Invalid File on CF"

Additional notes: The MPC 5000 will load an MPC 2500 (Akai OS 1.23)ALL FILE....just not an individual SEQ within an ALL FILE. Also, the MPC 5000 has problems loading programs and sequences created using the JJ OS.

Well, I just spoke with Akai Tech Support, and Kevin over there, is looking into this problem of the MPC 2000XL and MPC 2000 Files not loading... I also, tried to load some MPC 3000 files, no luck with that as well... I used MPC Editor to try to trouble shoot the program files(making sure that they were ok, and .pgm's would be properly synced up in the same folder as the sounds). So Kevin is going to try this up at Akai, and give me a call back with his answer.

Conclusion:

Kevin from Akai's Tech support just called me back, and said that he concluded the same issue. The Software will have to be rebuilt to support MPC Program Files such as 2000, 2000XL, and the 3000. I am not sure about issues with other MPC's. I believe its been reported that the 1000 and 2500 Official Akai OS's Program Files Transferred to the MPC 5000 ok

Now back to the program already in progress......

#6 Track mute recording bug?

1. Create a 2 track sequence about 4 bars in length, setting the sequence to LOOP
2. Go into TRACK MUTE screen
3. Press RECORD/PLAY
4. At BAR 3, hit the pad the MUTES TRACK 1
5. When the sequence loops back to BAR 1, TRACK 1 is still muted

Using the MPC 2500, Akai OS 1.23, recording a single TRACK MUTE will produce two events...one turning TRACK MUTE ON and the other TRACK MUTE OFF. So using the above steps, at BAR 1, TRACK 1 will play and at BAR 3, the TRACK 1 will be muted. When the sequence loops back around to BAR 1, TRACK 1 will play again.

#7 Q-link issues
1. p165 of the reference manual states that you can set the 'Assign' and 'Parameter' fields to OFF which will allow you to use Q-Link for MIDI Continuous Control. However, it is not possible to set the "Parameter' field to OFF. Bug or misprint in the manual?

2. When you move the cursor to the 'Ctrl' field, you cannot set this field using the Numeric Keypad

#8 Copy Folder Issue

1. I tried copying a folder (which contained a folder filled with samples) from the CD Rom drive to the hard drive
2. I was able to PASTE the folder to the hard drive, but the folder within the folder was empty
3. However, I have sucessfully copied and pasted a single folder with samples from the CD drive to the hard drive

I am not sure if this qualifies as a bug or a limitation

When loading a "PGM" that was made on MPC2000xl no sounds are mapped. Also when I load individual "SND" they are pitched down.

It seems that these sounds are cutting out when you het them on the pads. Very sluggish.

**************

I don't know if this is a bug or not. If you delete all programs and you were on the synth patch last then it automatically creates a synth program. Shouldn't it be auto default to "Sample"

hi guys,

just received my 5k and it is really amazing what kind of sounds are possible.

but i am a little frustrated right now, because i am note shure if one of my pads are broke.

PAD13 dosent response. i did a boot and everything ist fine, but the pad 13 works on time.
so i decided to get in the OTHER menu and then in PAD to see whats up. the aftertouch is working fine, but the PAD13 velocity dosent change and when i try another pad the 13 is still active.

a softwarebug, or pad broke?

Man! I have noticed so many different basic bugs with the 1.01 os.

1. With no sounds loaded the sample time is not accurate mono or stereo with exm-e3 installed.

2. On power up if I go straight to the cdr/dvd rom to play a cd, it plays but I have to repress mode and then the rec sample pad a second time before I can hear whats playing.

3. The response time is slow when playing a cd, trying to fast foward, rewind, & ect.

I can go on and on. I have even tried to re-install the updated os still the same problems. I'm not mad, which i know bugs are going to continue to be found but I pray they have a solution to all these things we notice in error, bugs, or problems and plan to correct them. I figure if nothing else they could have given us a solid piece after the long wait! :? :|

Oh I must add this when sampling and press the record button at the start point you want to sample then stop it at the end point, when replaying what you have sample it have a late start point. That's even if you have prerecord set to 0.00 Another thing is playing the cd then pressing stop and eject the song continue to play. Once it have stop you have to power down then reboot.

Wow is this what we all have been waiting for?

I mean, this is the first update that they have made, and we are some of the first ones to get the new MPC.

So once they fix these in the next update, then hopefully everything will workout... but i feel ya

I had a hot track going one day, and it froze up on me 3 times in a row, especially after I have started moving fast around it pressing buttons quick and jumping from different screens or modes.
