how do i tell if i got decent pads?

just got an mpc, pads feel fine to me but having never used anything else i wouldnt know a good pad from a bad one, i heard they ship newer units with decent pads, mines a black one, so how would i know if the pads are good or not, do i just wait for them to stop working?

I really don't know how to answer this but I'll give you this.

I just got the blue screen for the 1000 and when I took off the panel to access the screen, I was taken aback at the old pads. Mine are working perfectly fine and because this is my first MPC I do not know what the real [feel] would be like... I get my joints to bang and am not mad at my MPC for it. I'm scared that I will have to make the purchase but will wait until they break. I can bang on mine pretty hard and I get the velocity I am looking for. Again, I can bang away and everything is fine. Just pay attention to how hard you hit the pads. I say keep them until.....

i arent going to change them while they're working, i dont understand the whole pad debate, are the old pads bad because they dont work? or because they dont feel as good? in case of the latter i think its a bit much spending all that money just for a bit of feel, its hardly a philharmonic instrument is it. in case of the former then i must have the good pads cos mine work fine.

when they work, the old pads are fine
the problem is that they have a design flaw and often break.
you'll know when that happens.

I understand the debate but hesitate to get the fix for a working PAD. But then again, i purchased a blue screen when my green screen was/is perfectly fine. For me I wanted to [enhance] my MPC and the PADs would have been the way to go... but my beats a loud without compression and EQ. I don't know.... I would like to think that my sampling abilities is having an effect here because I do try to get the best sound out of each sample I create.

I forgot to elaborate on the last message. If you take your MPC top panel off and see you have [separate] PADs then you have the OLD PADs. I believe if you have a black [back] panel where your I/O are, you have new PADs....

there is no debate between working pads
there's no reason to upgrade if you're happy

i've seen people apply tin foil to the back of their pads and use their pads as full level ON/OFF switches. for several months before finding another solution, i did this. if folks are happy with this, that's all them.

one debate i HAVE heard is this:

"the old pads are fine. if you don't bang on them too hard, they'll last. it's the end user's fault if they break."

this argument is uninformed bullsh!t. this is not the case, i've seen firsthand.

ive no intention of replacing anything unless it breaks. thanks again.
