Looks incredible so far! I have one suggestion ... like on blue box when you assign all the sounds and program them to pads you have to go back and find all the sound files and manually drop them in with the PGm. file...is it possible to automate this process? like make it where it would save all the sound files in the same folder as the PGM file... sure would make life easier and exporting allot more seamless! In fact this is why I don't use bluebox because after I assign to pads i often can't remember what sound files I picked because I go folder to folder shopping for sounds...it gets all to confusing when you have over 10,000+ samples your shopping through... Hope I'm not asking for too much, lol

^ agreed. a "copy source sample files to saved pgm directory" option would be fantastic. or simple "save pgm and samples to folder."

I think that this feature is already implemented ass you chop up the samples inside this software.

I would like to hear if this software has "beat detection" or if you have to set the slice point yourself.

Nym wrote:if you can, create a thread in the mpc1000 forums with this screenshot. folks will adore you for it.

again, keep up the good work - i'll keep my eyes on this project. very exciting stuff.
i may be able to get you the file architecture for the jjos2 drum and inst pgms, as well - which are slightly different than typical akai pgms.

Thats no lie, some built in compatibility with jj OS 2 will put you in high demand around here. Keep up the good work!

I havent done beat detection algorithm yet, but I will work on that soon. It will be able to work with the mpc1000 soon, and if the file format is the same for the 2500 then that as well, its literally a one hour change. I wont be able to test these machines though which could get a bit tedious, I might need to IM someone with them to do testing. Send the jjos format my way and I will look at it and put it in with these other updates when I get around to it. Currently the program automatically exports all wavs with a pgm file (and a midi file for a chopped sequence), one step ahead!

I dont know about charging for this, I think/hope it will be useful to people and obviously I wouldnt be adverse to money for my efforts, but the reason I thought of it initially (in this thread) is because recycle is a rip off. I know from a business point of view I would be better off charging for it, because if people pay $1000 for an mpc, they can obviously play $10 for something which improves the experience, and i'm sure I could make a reasonable return that way. However, as a student I bought the mpc 500 because it was the only one I could afford (other than a poor condition standard 2000), and I want this program to improve the functionality for 500 users like me who aspire to using the higher end models. I hope that if people feel that this program has improved their workflow and/or reduced time spent doing menial tasks rather than making music, then they would feel that it was worth a donation; whatever they think that my time and effort was worth to them. (And I'm not trying to make people feel guilty into donating here, I just dont feel that software should be sold as a commodity) Call it shareware if you like, but with no nag screens or pricing model.

admirable.

recycle is TOTALLY a ripoff. recently i posted a rant about how when i went back to recycle after a long time of using the mpc i found it absolutely intolerable.
i'll see what i can do regarding jjos pgm format.
1 request: recycle doesn't do vertical zoom via mousewheel.
this is a workflow KILLER. if you could implement vertical zoom via mousewheel, you'd greatly improve the chopper's workflow.

Cheers Nym I have put that on the list of things to do.

I need to make a website for the thing too, so I can geta database of beta testers and a bug database set up to automate it all. I should know exactly how long things are going to take and have some sort of release schedule within the next day or so. I will needa couple of core alpha testers first, I will be PMing a couple of people off this forum.

I have changed the name of the program to Beat Butcher MPC, I wanted to drop 500 from the name since I will be expanding it for the other models as well.

I just wanted to say cheers for all the support and kind words here as well!

Trimming by mousewheel should be better!

yeah. any daw app that doesn't zoom HORIZONTAL via mousewheel is out of the question in my book. i hate using virtual sliders just to zoom, and i even dislike key short cuts to zoom.

IMPORTANT

guyb: i mistyped earlier - i didn't mean VERTICAL zoom ie decrease displayed amplitude of the display of the wavform
i meant HORIZONTAL zoom, ie decrease the displayed TIME of the waveform.
reaper handles this well - mousewheel zooms horizontal (time), ctrl mousewheel zooms vertical (amplitude)
sorry for that, hopefully you understood what i was talking about.

this is the most exciting thing in a long time! those screenshots look great. i'm on a mac and am happy to test but I'm relatively new to the MPC so might now use all the features to their full capability.

thanks for all your work into this dude - you deserve all this praise you're getting.

Sent you a PM - we'll happily host this all for you and also help test it for all MPC models, plus whatever else you need. 8)
