Hi All,

I have recently moved over to jjos1 and am becoming more and more confident with my usage of the MPC 1000,
ie timing up my samples to fit and getting more used to the MPC as I am very new to all this.

Now I wondered if i could get some help in ref to the Q link slider.

I recently started using the q link to pitch up my samples to the rest of my current sequence.

Now ussually I hit mode then the q linkpad thinks its A1 then i set the q link to pitch in real time.

My problemo is that then when i have achieved the desired pitch for the q link'd sample and then either switch to another track or press stop and then play the sample reverts to the normal pitch, in other words it doestnt lock to the pittch and I keep having to press after which is not ideal because i want he pitch i have selected to stay in that key all tthe time.

I hope that is clear. so anyone tell me where I'm going wrong here?

Thanks in advance

James

For your purposes it sounds like you might just be better off to forget about the qlinks and just pitch up the sample in program mode.

Depends on what you're really trying to do I suppose....

yo, sounded like maybe its not on note, when i have it on realtime and then record is just playbacks at reg pitch.

qlinks really good, but a bit illogical sometimes given that JJos has modified the original akai behavior....like in grid edit (qreal), the two sliders act together to achieve -120/+120 values (very odd, but a physical constraint in the mpc JJ's cant work around, as jj sort ov invented the qreal functions here. and when in normal use other than grid edit, the qreal is -120/+120 on just one fader - as you might expect with the note on setup a la akai

when a realtime qlink setup is chosen, no matter what the fader position is at, if you restart the sequencer, the pitch will be reset....also when the seq is running then the slider isf moved will override any pitch data already in the sequence.

so....to obtain a set value at a desired setting other than '0', find the pitch that is desired, then before restarting the seq, check the value in the mode+pad1=slider, then either input this value as the first event in the event list (step edit) or in grid edit on that track..... then the track will always run the desired starting pitch -

the way i often do it is to have my finger n thumb really hold the slider at the desired value as its playing. then stop the seq, set the mpc into record, and as the count in gets to the 0:01:01 i sever so slightly twitch the slider into the value i need, resulting in the first tick recording the required value.

or like "jackymurda" said, run in overdub and get the pitch right there, but it can be hit n miss this way....especially when a precise value is needed.

if note on is used, "after " will need to be used to 'capture' the desired pitch event when in overdub.

but what if you want to record the reatime q-link movements into the sequence , that is not wanting a constant set pitch but capture your movements how do you do this?, i'd like to do this to further **** with my turntable scratches and also on found sounds

to do the real time, u set up the sliders to be 'real time: pitch.......:track'

then put the track into rec/odub while your moving the sliders as u like the pitch movement. the seq will then capture your movements. and play it back as u did it.

its important to remember though that even after you've done the recording, the slider can still affect the pitch of the sounds - but in a live 'realtime' way, so you'll find that it may conflict with what u want, until u turn off the slider - 'realtime' function.

it may be fun to try the grid edit - realtime entry, and you can see whats being laid into your patterns on screen, and even edit every detailed pitch event
