If you limit yourself by not walking certain paths just because they're unconventional your mind is not open for innovation. I'm not saying you should sample youtube, which I think is a great idea if you find what you need because there's a lot of material on there which isn't copy written anyway, but I'm also not saying you shouldn't.
That's what music is all about.... being free to express yourself ... If you can't open your mind to new techniques and ways to be innovative you will sit in your comfort zone for, the rest of your life.....
Nothing wrong with having a method and sticking to it, but think about it, all the great artists you love to listen to DID break a lot of rules in their time, that's why their music sounded the way it did.
The way I see it is , sample whatever you can sample wherever you can sample it from through whatever you have to sample with...
Although vinyl does sound great and makes you feel good....
you're kind of implying that sampling from youtube is in some way forward thinking or groundbreaking, and that people who arnt prepared to are missing out...
and that would be crazy talk.
or am i completely misunderstanding your post?
... No, all I'm saying is sampling off youtube is just another way to get samples into your machine, and I don't see nothing wrong with that. I don't think it's a way forward, but it definetly opens up a whole lot of possibillities to some people, and I don't think you should limit yourself in the way you find your samples. I wouldn't recommend sampling off you tube for numerous reasons, but I also wouldn't say it's a bad thing...
The way forward to me is opening your mind to different ways to make music, and if helps you to achieve that by sampling off you tube or any other unconventional method, then good luck to you.
The reality of it is that this is a purists game (and I think it should stay that way), and sampling from anything else than vinyl is being seen as "breaking the rules". This makes it difficult for some people to achieve the results they want because these "rules" don't work well for everybody.
It doesn't work for me, although there is material on there which you can't find in record stores , so maybe I'm too much of a purist, but for some people it apparently works, otherwise there wouldn't be a thread about this. And good luck to them.
