Hello,
I just got a MPC 1000, though I'm not new to the world of MPCs, having owned a 2000xl for 3 years and really getting to know it. Just poking around on the 1000, things make SO much sense thanks to my familiarity with the 2000xl and also the new JJOS. I have OS2, version 1.20 on there now, fyi.
My problem is that when I plug in headphones to the headphone jack, sound only comes out the right channel. As I insert the jack, sound comes out the left channel for a second, then when fully inserted, comes out the right only. Never does sound come out both channels at the same time.
Also, when I try to send the output of a pad via stereo outs, only the right side comes through. I get all of the right side, but when I pan left, nothing. This happens on mono as well as stereo samples, but from what I remember from the 2000xl days, both mono and stereo samples come out on both channels of a pad--mono just plays dual.
If I've totally overlooked some setting that will fix all my problems, I'd be very glad to know it, before I take it to the shop. In fact, it has already seen a shop last night--my friend's--we took it apart, assuming something had broken during shipping (it was shipped from Florida, I bought the MPC off ebay, it was packed OK but not amazingly). Nothing on the circuit boards near the headphone jack and the stereo outs looked bad. One wire was slightly kinked but when tested it passed signal. No caps were melted.
He said he was sorry but didn't know what could be the problem. So now, I either take it to a place and pay them to troubleshoot, or....well, that's about my only option. So I figured I'd ask the obvious question after all that legwork...am I just missing a screen where you set this up? I'm pretty damn sure there isn't such a thing, but I've got to ask. I would be super stoked if so, even after taking it apart and putting it back together last night!
By the way, the guy I bought it from on Ebay says he babies his equipment and the 1000 worked perfectly when he sold it. I believe him, as he did all the upgrades himself: new pads, 75 gig hard drive installed, max memory, 128mb flash card. He's also offered to help me out to pay for the fix, if need be. If he was dicking me around I'm sure he would have stopped email correspondence long ago and just told me to take it up with UPS or Ebay.
Any help greatly appreciated,
JBG
