Hey all--

Glad I found this informative site!

I have been using a Kurzweil K2000VP (rack) for all my sequencing needs for a few years, but would like to upgrade to something more powerful. So, I am seriously considering the 1000.

As some of you may know, in the June issue of Keyboard Magazine, there is a review of this unit. It is a very good review, however, the reviewer mentions that "a few useful sequencer features missing compared to other current MPC models." He doesn't provide any specific details in this regard.

After downloading and reading the manual, I sure don't see many shortcomings. Overall, the 1000 has a ton of features for the money--probably more than I'll ever need!

But I was just curious, and wanted to get some comments from you experienced users, as to what seq features could be missing? (Or was the reviewer himself just mistaken? )

Just curious--thanks--looks like ya'll are happy with the 1000! :D Peace.

hi
the reviewer was right, allthough he should have specified what features were missing.

1000 comparing to the other models (ex, 2000xl) is missing:
- timestretching
- sample reverse
- loop choping into 16 parts
- 100,000 notes (comparing to 300,000)

Those are the main missing features. But, you never know, they might be inplemented in the next OS update.

BTW, i use the Kurzweil K2000VP too. Great keyboard, I love it.

no track velocity (or volume IIRC?)

with 2000 2000xl and 3000 you can record to different tracks at one using REC16. On the 1000, you can only record to the track listed in the MAIN window.

In my opinion, this handicaps the 1000. Sometimes, not so much, but if you're trying to record more than one midi channel at once (like I was) you're screwed.

"- timestretching

- loop choping into 16 parts "

I think he asked for missing sequencer features.

Yes, the reviewer specifically refers to "useful sequencer features missing."

The 100K max events are listed in a side-bar in the article, but the reviewer doesn't cite that as a "missing feature" or even a drawback. He does mention, though, that you can't assign the footswitch jacks to advance to the next sequence. Perhaps that's also one of the "missing features" he was referring to.

For my purposes, I was mainly curious about any possible editing features missing, but like I said, after reading the manual, it looks like it has everything I would want!

Effekt: How would you compare the Kurz sequencer to the 1000? I believe the the Kurz has a much lower event capacity, but I think it has a higher note resolution (480 compared to 96 on the MPC) which may not even be a factor in the real world! Just curious as to what you think.

Thanks everyone--Peace --B. :)

Hmmm, I actually like both sequencer. The Kurz has alot higher note resolution then the MPC 1000, but it is alot harder to work with. I experimented with both and i find that when it comes to note resolution, it's almost imposible to tell the difference in the final product (track) with a "naked" ear. I got my Kurz connected to my MPC by MIDI and sometimes I use the sequencer from the Kurz and just the pad from the MPC. But my reason for thet is not the higher note resolution, it's the fact that I like the effects from the Kurz more then those of the MPC. So, honestly...you shouldn't be conserned by the lower bit resolution of the MPC, because 96 is still enough.

Thanks--Yeah, that's a point to consider about the effects. And I think too, that 96 note resolution is fine (that's a 1 to 5 ratio when compared to the Kurz), because as you said, with the naked ear, it's practically impossible to hear a difference of say, 5 or even 10 on the Kurz! I notice if I "dial in" a note too precise on the Kurz, I loose the "human" feel anyway!

Thanx for the comments! Peace.
