Numbers are only important to corporations and the artists whose main concern is a check, but VMA awards and sales don't dictate quality. Like I said before, if simply making the music is the major concern, then appreciating the craft of digging is not important. Like your Ice-T/Vanilla Ice comparison, I agree, I remember the Vanilla Ice album..I actually still have my "Rolling in my 5.0 cassingle somewhere, but none of this is important to those that simply want to improve their self worth. It took me YEARS to realize I was thinking all wrong about this music. The truth is that while we all think, "one day, we're gonna make it" we have actually already "made it!" We make music all the time on here (more bad than good.) Now, it's time to improve YOU. How can I make me better is the question we all need to ask ourselves. How can I take me to that next level? Simply jackin' the newest hottest style isn't cool, but that's how folks do things nowadays...isn't that kinda wack?? If you ever look at some of the true underground heads (where the real music is) they don't care if they sell one or a million cd's; the music HAS to have a purpose. If you look at real diggers, they may pay a couple thousand for a single 45..others like myself cringe at paying more than $3.00! haha (I like to bux stacks of wax for $20!) This is the same for any scenario. Some people are proud if they build a shed, other folks may not get satisfaction until they take architecture to an unthinkable level, but at the same time, having an episode on YoMtv cribs, (showing your clean condo) will get a better reaction from people than the architect (that got his hands dirty) that unveils the colossal masterpiece to the general public!dang u on fire

well spoken roxstar! i feel the same way about this artform. the scene here if follow the leader, never be one. and it sucks cuz u got ppl like me that dig and build on what i have rather than mimic anotha cats shyt like my home town does. at the same time these same cats here my shyt and be like "thats some real hip hop **** man thats tight but aint nobody gonna listen."
thats whats killin us cuz all the stuff on the net has already been flipped thats y its on the net! no one has any ambition and thats what diggin gives you. beat contests and shyt is cool, whatever if they supply the sample but do most cats think theyll get far if they continue sampling from the same sources?
diggin feels better cuz u feel closer to hip hop
sorry for straying a lil but theres soooo much id like to say...

Exactly. Diggin' is a part of production. Personal speaking, I've done everything except spit lyrics, but if it wasn't for early rap music, I would have never started breakdancing. Breakdancing led to writing graffiti. This led to Djing, and that led to production. Production then got me into Diggin'. My point is that while most guys may say, "ohh, I have beatblock, what should I do" most real heads will have answers like, listen to other music, buy some records for inspiration, Chop up some drums, or learn something new with the equipment you already have. Experiment! These answers are all derived of "diggin." We buy records just because of how it may look without hearing it. We can go months without making beats and be satisfied with finding new gems. After a while, we may find something SO DOPE that it's disrespectful to chop it up!! Trust me, some records are meant to be listened to. I have some records that I don't think I can do any justice, so I leave em alone. Most guys that have beat block are used to making 10-20 beats a day. The process may begin with a standard routine (hi-hats at 1/8 or 1/16 haha) while using stock keyboard sounds, and as soon as a new piece of equipment comes out, they HAVE to buy it because after 2+ years, their normal routine has become mundane. Their $2000 Motif is suddenly boring. They start to blame their MPC6000XL for not having enough editing abilities as their 8 core Mac with Protools and Reasons. Experimenting doesn't just come with diggin' though. If you don't dig, then like I said before, get deeper with yourself in whatever way it takes. Learn to play keys, pick up an instrument, learn how to program a synth..I dunno, but diggin' led me to other avenues in production. Just do more to learn more. Do whatever it takes.

Which also explains the real reason why new skool Hip-Hop sucks. The fake niggums are trying so hard to be real.
I'll stop now before I get too deep and completely off subject.
