Yes you can do this. You set loop to 'on' than make sure the little padlock is 'unlocked' ie. start/end points are not locked to the loop start/end. You can then adjust your sample start/end time independantly of the loop start/end time, and it should function like you want.

really? i don't think this will work. a looped samples always stops at loop end, not sample end.

just have the end of the sample (from end of loop to end of original sample) on a second pad, and set both the looped sample and the tail sample to a mute group?

that way you can trigger your loop, and when you are ready to finish it off with the tail, just hit the pad. It will mute out the looped sample and play the rest.

Yes you might be right, I should have added I was going off memory and wasn't quite sure, thats why I said "should" funtion like you want  . The start point definately works, but I think you might be right about the end point. I dunno, I'll give it a go. If it was only a short tail you needed to recreate you could just add some release.

yeah this is a good idea

I think some very cool sounds could be made with a feature like this

a separate note-on and note-off trigger could be good too. Like map a guitar sample to one pad for note-on and then map a string/fret rubbing and buzzing sample to the same pad for note-off trigger So when you hit the pad it plays the chord until you release it and then you hear a sample of a hand sliding down the fretboard to the next chord -- and then you hit another pad

This is something I have often wondered about, but I've never seen it in a sampler myself. I remember a long time ago reading about multaple loop points, and I wonder if this is what that was all about. To me it seems like it would be pretty easy, and I'm surprised it's not the way things are done now. All that needs to be added is a SAMPLE END point. Once you hit the pad it would play from the start point, through the loop point, to the loop end, and loop forward or alternately until the pad is released. Then it would finish playing the loop, then play from the loop end point to the actual end point... Has this ever been done before?

cosign. in a way the infrastructure already exists for this in the OS (layers). JJ would just have to make it so you get something like "play LAYER 1 on note-on, play LAYER 2 on note-off".

if i remember correctly the Ensoniq ASR-10 can do this. i'm sure there are others.

the layer thing would be awesome.

and yeah I do this kind of looping alot on the asr.
