Why does all the new MPC'S need JJ OS. I keep hearing everyone recommend getting JJ OS with the 500, 1000, and 2500. I don't use any of these, but, do you mean to tell me Akai left it's users with a buggy OS.

5000????????????
By DJEther Wed Dec 10, 2008 6:52 am
I wasnt aware they made a JJOS for the 500 and they probably didnt, unless i missed sumthing!

If u have a 1000, JJOS give you the ability to do things on 1000 that could be done on the 2500.

I havent heard ANY complaints about it YET unlike the stock akai OS....

sometimes companies will give a buggy OS just so the user will keep having to upgrade or they just rush it w/o thinking it through just for the sake of money, beating out the competition,etc.....

how can u beat out the comp. if its really buggy as hell....now one will really want to use....many have switched and not looked back....

although ive never heard of any famous producers using JJOS.....YET!

Maybe I was wrong about the 500. I don't know. I have never used a 1000 or 2500. But, I keep hearing people talk about getting JJ OS. I think it's horrible of NuAkai.

no offense but this is incorrect, and is something i feel i have to comment on.
jjos for the 1000 does not "turn your 1000 into a mini 2500."
jjos on the 1000 gives you things that can NOT be done on the 2500 with the stock os.
a 1000 with jjos2 is far more capable than the 2500 with the factory os.

luckily, both the 1000 and 2500 run practically identical software, so there is a version of jjos2 for the 2500 as well, otherwise there'd be no point in having the 2500.

Let's take it a little further for the mis-informed.
A 2500 without a JJ OS is just as bad as a 1k without it.
While the Akai OS for the 2 units have some differences both are lacking many of the JJ aspects.
JJ has been fair enough to make the 2500 and 1k OS's match feature wise and thus the reason the 1k and 2500 have minimal differences based on the extra outs, tilt screen and CD drive (which JJ still hasn't addressed).
Back in the beginning there were concerns when JJ stated he had maxed the available OS space on the 1k, but we look back and laugh at that now considering how much he has done since that statement.

Bomb beats, it's not so much that Akai left you with a buggy OS, it's more about what JJ has added to the OS.

So, Akai is doing nothing to improve the OS? Keep in mind that all of my MPC's are older and nothing new will probably never be written for their OS. But, these are still fairly new, with newer technology. When I bought my 3000 I knew and had to live with fact that the OS was not going to have future updates and bug fixes.

It's amazing, I don't recall any other manufactor, like say, Roland, allowing former employees or third party companies writting software like this for products that are still supported.

One mor time so if you have a 1000 wth jjos 2 and a 2500 with jjos2 they both have the same features as far as soft ware .
and then only the hardware is different ie. screen , outs , what about record thu, and chop shop cutting on thehigh point of waves?

Good for JJ. Keep up the positive work.

Does OS void the warranty?

yes. exactly the same except for the cd drive and tilt screen, extra outs (midi and audio), and extra qlinks.

what about record thu, and chop shop cutting on thehigh point of waves?

again, they can run the same jjos2 software. excluding the extra outputs and CD-R burning (heh), there's nothing you can do in one machine you can't do in the other

Hundreds of suggestions to improve the 4k was sent into Akai an ignored, when it was a supported product. Akai not doing anything
to improve their currently shipping products, is generally par for the course.

Hmm.. who said that Akai is allowing it? I bet if you were to tell Akai who JJ was (or is if it's a group of people) they would LOVE you.
At this point, I'm sure they are fairly aware of who in Akai Japan who was fired that had the ability to obtain the Source Code and also
the ability to modify the source code to be better then the originally. It could only be a handful of people in the size of company that
Akai is. But you can't arrest somebody because you "think" somebody took code. You pretty much have to have proof. Until then,
we all benefit from somebody who cares for the product. The JJS OS, especially the new 2XL with it's Chord features, is seriously making
me consider using 2 MPC 1000's for my live set rather then a 4000 and leave the 4000 for home. I'd have to use 2 1000's because
of the RAM limitations on those machines. But 2 MPC's 1000 coupled with a Midibox Clockbox would basically mean that I could play all night long without stop and not have to reload every 512M. SO he's making them money, so they might want him to continue
making OS"s

I just personally wished, he had yanked the 4k OS as well.

And saying that they are still supported is being nice to Akai and indicating that they actually provide support for their products... some of the responses that I"ve gotten from Nukai's email services are joke.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Renegadebliss. I'm understand.

DukeDavenport, I still use 3.10 on my 60II and 3000. I have heard about the Manshell or whatever. But, I'm happy with what I have. I can't miss what I don't have.
