If you add up the cost of a dedicated PC/Mac to work with and keep safe from fukcing up, this thing is way too expensive for the average market it's supposed to target. Don't get misleaded by those whistles, this is still just a controller.
I like when people try to add the cost of a PC/Mac in reference to a new piece of software/midi controller as if people dont already own a PC/Mac. That is the reason why these products are getting made. This isn't 2001, computer music is a popular as ever and to the people who are already knee deep in their DAW setup, the only added cost is the Maschine itself. I am willing to bet no more than 15% of this forum (or any music production forum) DOES NOT record to a DAW. Fact is, most songs are not completed within the mpc/mv8800/ASR anymore. Now, tell me why you wouldn't market to DAW users.
This thing is genius. I posted a similar idea when the MPC 5000 came out and this is the type of thinking that changes the game.
1. This DOES NOT need to be a standalone vst host. Why would it? Again, almost everyone already has a vst host (DAW) in their setup. Redundancy is not necessary as it only drives up cost.
2. For the samplers out there, do you know how much time this saves? There is no need to: record into mpc>chop sample>record back into sequence on the DAW>export. All you do is sample through your interface. Boom!...its on the Maschine>chop>export the track (same as a vst). I aint even gunna mention the cats who (for God knows why) record into the mpc>export to pc to chop in recycle>export back into mpc>etc... And syncing your mpc to protools or whatever will be some shit you aint gotta worry about any more.
3. The way NI's software interface lets you organize your drums is a dream come true. You should watch the videos if your not clear on this. Choosing drum sounds for layering can take forever if you dont already have your kits setup how you like.
4. In one of the videos, they show how easy it is to switch between 'groovebox' mode and 'midi controller'. I can sell my stiff padded TriggerFinger...
Honestly...im sold on this but the only thing im worried about is how the pads feel.
