that's a great feature of the 2500, you gotta be able to use it. makes chopping up samples easy.
2. did you try messing with the chop shop feat. yet. it works real good too. i just started using it and i've been getting good results. you can use the auto or equal, then go in and edit/fine tune the chops. works great. since i started using that, i haven't been using extract as much.
even still, you want that extract to work for you. it def. comes in handy.
i've been on that 2500 like it's my job. diggin and leanrn'. you should holler, we can def. help each other out, since we both are new to it and both use to use the 2000XL.
i'd like to get your take on the swing & note repeat of the 2500. i doesn't seem as tight as the 2000XL to me. everything else blows the 2000XL out the water tho. the only things that bother me bout the 2500 is the swing & note repeat and the punch of it is good, but seems like its missing mid range freqs, if that makes sense. that's not a big deal, cause you can eq afterwards. overall i'm loving the editing tho.
i should have done my research before i copped it tho. seems like the MPC 4000 does all the 2500 does and swings better and sounds punchier.

1. I'm still waiting for Akai to send me the 128 (and cd drive). Then I will return the 64 to the dude from ebay.
2. Yeah, I use job shop all the time. But for this particular sample, I knew didn't have enough RAM left to use chop shop, so I tried extract the parts I wanted instead. I had already chopped up the main part of the sample in chop shop and layed it down. Then I reloaded the entire song back in and tried extracting other small parts I wanted to use as fillers and shyt. I didn't wanna chop up the whole song. But even still, I had 6.4MB free RAM left, which was about 32 seconds of stereo time. That should have been plenty to extract a 1 second portion of the sample. I use extract on nearly all my beats and never ran into this. Must be the size of the sample.
As for swing and note repeat, I don't see a difference at all. I don't use note repeat on most of my beats though. But the swing seems on point to me. Note repeat shouldn't be cutting any frequencies since it's just simulating you hitting the pad repeatedly. The only suggestion I can give you for this is try to note repeat with the sample on Poly so it will overlap itself. Just beware of the sound distortion and clipping.
