when i play the sample by itself it plays fine, but if i try to record it into a sequence it cuts off before the whole sample plays out. i tried both one shot and note on with the same result. even when the sequence is just playing and i hit the pad, the sample cuts off. what could this be?

what os? it could be the envelope, or the mute groups give more info = get more answers

Try changein that sample to mono......Might be a poly issue, It almost always is.

i'm on os 1. i tried the mono/poly already. there are no mute groups on. it's only when the sequence is playing or recording that it cuts maybe the last second. and it's with different samples on different pads. strangest thing. these are also samples that i have used in different sequences that play out fine.

where is that at? i looked at stan steez' manual and no mention of "polyphony meter" the only thing i found was voice meter. i went through all the settings and nothing weird.

yeah omni - check the voice meter, it will get up to 32 if u are about to max out polyphony.

some longer samples will become unvoiced if another note kicks in and requires the last available voice, its harder to notice with lots of little samples, but any long ones will just 'disappear'. i think its just that its probably coded to have newest note priority.

but if the voice meter shows only a handful of voices at any one time, and its still doing it, then i'm lost.....hehehhe

i guess before i posted i should have searched the board for polyphony meter first. i got my question answered about that. i was definitely maxed out at 32. what my question is now is how do i reduce the the number of polyphony voices so my sample will play out in it's entirety? i guess convert that sample to mono?

this is where you must be creative. one way is to bounce chosen tracks to a stereo phrase... assuming you use more than 2 voices at a time for whatever it is you want to bounce...

32 voices is a lot of samples for a drum beat, but not for a whole song. if you are trying to do an entire production in the mpc then you may need to consider buying another synth or sampler to take some pressure off.

just think of how some have dealt with this issue in the past. back the further you go, the more people had to deal with insufficient polyphony. you are in modern times with your 32 voice MPC.

at a certain point you have to make up for where the equipment falls short. can you fit your creative vision within the space you have?

watch out for hi hats or rides overlapping, there's no need for them to be polyphonic

bring any unnecessary long releases to adsr's down a few notches - i had this last nite, i was using a 3 layer INST for 'keyboard' parts. was a simple poly inst, 'same mono sample on 3 layers' jobbie, layer2 & 3 = -00.25/+00.25 in addition to the original sample at flat pitch, with a smooth tail release and it was plunging my MPC into polyphony fits i've never seen the likes of before!

ahem, anyway, i cut its release from 33 to 30, and that was a dramatic difference, just 3 down and it saved some other long samples from cutting off - very similar to your predicament OMNI.... i did it to 25 to see still more improvements.

then i realized, i could go one better & resample the hit, dry, loud, and alt looped with a straight flat ADSR, as a result i cut polyphony use right down, all one mono sample (1 layer - same pitched character, relooped the new sample, recreated the original adsr), then i got to increase the release on the 'flattened' sample. and even smaller drain on the voice CPU.
